Paul Merson spoke for all for Liverpool fans when criticising the match officials’ handling of Liverpool’s 2-1 defeat to Tottenham.
Whilst Mike Dean repeatedly insisted the laws of the game prevented VAR from intervening to deliver the correct decision in the game – with Luis Diaz’s goal wrongly ruled out for offside – the former Gunner rightly pointed out the insanity of the former referee’s logic.
The Sky pundit is absolutely spot on to point out that the lack of use of common sense in officiating a game makes very little sense.

I had a go with Mike Dean at Tranmere before VAR come in I told him we needed cameras on goal line after he had disallowed a goal in a previous game he said no way that will never happen while I’m Referiing !!!!! Where are you now Dean he is a Tranmere supporter
how can that have been allowed to happen, the goal was onside. ref should have stopped the game, and awarded a goal.this is disgrace to the game.
The way Mike Dean is saying “It’s the law”. Unfortunately it is not “the” law, otherwise we would be prosecuting!
The football laws are a codified set of rules. The whole VAR committee and PGMOL need to pull their head out of their @rses, be professional, have a bit of humility and stop acting like Wild West sheriffs.
Reply the match or award Liverpool the goal and let it be a drW
