Steve McManaman was far from impressed with Kostas Tsimikas in Liverpool’s Europa League meeting with Toulouse.
The Greek international (signed for £11.75m in 2020) was directly at fault for the opener after being caught ‘asleep’ at the wheel.
“It was poor from Tsimikas, just fell asleep and allowed the opposition to get into the game,” the former Red spoke on TNT Sports (via BBC Sport).
“Caiomhin Kelleher has no chance with the deflection, flies off Jarell Quansah’s leg into the net.
“A very unlikely lead for the home side, and not a good look at all from the Liverpool left-back.”
Evidently, Jurgen Klopp felt it wasn’t the former Olympiakos man’s night either, substituting his fullback at the half-time break.

Poor from Kostas Tsimikas
We’re huge fans of Tsimikas generally, however, his latest display in France leaves us with questions over who should be our first-choice left-back once we return to domestic action.
It’s worth pointing out that we looked a more threatening side following the 27-year-old’s arrival on the pitch against Luton Town.
That said, with a big meeting at the Etihad on the horizon after the international break, one might imagine Klopp will want a relatively settled option.
Barring any surprises, we’d imagine whoever begins the game against Brentford will also be favoured on 25th November.
Klop is responsible for the defeat of LFC by mediocre team of France. He should have started with the strongest team and make substitution with fringe players. As for.the Greek left back I don’t see him.withstanding pressure from Man.City Foden.or Doku or whoever is picked. This reveals lack of depth at Liverpool. It’s so unfortunate we will meet Man.City without Robertson.
I agree totally. Put your best players on and win the game first then you put the novices on. This is not the first time this has happened. Hopefully he has learnt a lesson. Never underestimate another team.
That’s his problem
I agree start with your strongest team and see where it takes you.If your winning comfortably then bring on subs.If you don’t play your strongest team from the off the game could then begin to go away from you and be difficult to turn around.
The message is get the game won then play around with the team.
Yes that’s well said klop thinks he is to slim knows every term
I believe its the mentality of the players. They weren’t just hungry enough. No ‘Fire in the bellies’.
They thought they had it easy both with Luton and Toulouse.
Stepped up their game only after 2 goals down.
Lesson learnt? I certainly hope so.
Kostas Tsimikas is a good player. He needs to be encouraged and supported to build his confidence. Playing Robertson always is not helping Tsimikas to come up a better player. Giving him a playing time will be helpful at a time like this, with time he will turn out better. It happened to Gomez but he is now playing with more confidence than he did last season. We are doin well so far but more play time should be giving to Wutaru, Tsimikas, Gomez, Konate, Elliot.
