With Liverpool having the best part of five days to prepare for Thursday’s Europa League clash against LASK following the draw at Manchester City last weekend, Dominik Szoboszlai took the opportunity to pay a surprise visit to his former club RB Leipzig.

The Bundesliga outfit’s social media admins posted a video of the 23-year-old unexpectedly showing up at his old stomping ground, with the reaction of head coach Marco Rose a delight to witness.

It wasn’t just his former boss for whom the Hungarian had a warm greeting, either, as he was also seen welcoming Fabio Carvalho, who’s on loan at the Red Bull Arena from the Merseyside giants.

The two have yet to play together at Liverpool – Szoboszlai’s transfer to the Reds was confirmed two days after the 20-year-old completed his temporary exit from Anfield during the summer – but it seems that they’ve been keeping in touch to some extent, based on the interaction between the pair.

The irony is that the Hungary captain’s scintillating displays could make it very tough for the ex-Fulham youngster to displace him once he returns to Jurgen Klopp’s side, but clearly any element of competitiveness between the duo comes with a great mutual respect.

Liverpool will have ‘some sort of decision’ to make in January regarding the future of a current Reds player, that’s according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.

The Reds are currently well stocked in the attacking department which led to Fabio Carvalho being loaned out for the season to Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig in the summer.

The 21-year-old only joined Liverpool from Fulham last summer but struggled for regular game time as Jurgen Klopp’s side missed out on a top four finish and failed to pick up any silverware.

Carvalho is certainly a player for the future but Sheth believes a decision regarding his future could be made in the coming months.

“They’ve got Luis Diaz, they’ve got Darwin Nunez, they’ve still got Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo, they’ve got Diogo Jota. If Carvalho was to come back, does he actually get a sniff in that team? What choice would he be?,” the reporter said (as quoted by GIVEMESPORT). “By the looks of it, he’d be sixth in the pecking order. And being that far down the pecking order, you’re looking at early rounds of a League Cup and FA Cup to get his opportunities. So maybe there’s going to have to be some sort of decision that’s going to have to be made. Maybe come January, maybe come the summer as well.”

The Lisbon-born talent headed to Germany to get minutes under his belt in a competitive environment but has started just two games across all competitions.

He’s yet to register a goal or an assist and it’s fair to say things haven’t quite gone to plan for him so far.

The Portugal international, who our German tactician has previously labelled as a ‘role model’ due to his impressive attitude in training, registered a goal contribution every other game for Fulham when they earned promotion back to the top-flight two years ago so it’s rather bizarre to see his career somewhat stall.

There’s no doubt that he’s a quality player but it’s just a case of finding a spot for him in Klopp’s side with the amount of quality we already have at the top end of the pitch.

He may very well be one for the future but it’ll be interesting to see whether he’s patient enough to wait round for his opportunity.

Dharmesh Sheth has appeared to cast doubt over the long-term Liverpool future of one young player on the club’s books.

Among the numerous players out on loan from Anfield is Fabio Carvalho, whose spell at RB Leipzig has proven worryingly abortive so far, being restricted to two starts and 234 minutes of game-time in all competitions so far (Transfermarkt).

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT about the 21-year-old, the Sky Sports reporter suggested that the midfielder’s lack of game-time in Germany could see him being left behind when he returns to his parent club.

Sheth said: “He is a young player though and he’s come from the Championship effectively when he moved from Fulham.

“It’s a difficult situation that he’s in just now, but of course, the lack of game time that he’s getting with RB Leipzig hasn’t helped him for his development and also trying to knock on the door for Klopp as he can point to look what I’m doing at RB Leipzig. Crucially, I think as well, it just feels like Liverpool are moving on as well.”

Carvalho had been outspoken about his struggle for regular minutes at Liverpool last season, so his loan exit to Leipzig could’ve been an opportunity for him to prove a point to Jurgen Klopp.

Unfortunately for the 21-year-old, he’s not really getting that in Germany, and his cause isn’t being helped by the emergence of younger talents at Anfield such as Ben Doak, or the influx of midfield additions during the summer transfer window.

Ryan Gravenberch is only three months older than him but has already looked far better prepared to make a lasting impact for the Reds than the ex-Fulham prodigy, who right now seems to be facing an uphill battle to carve out a long-term starting place at this parent club.

Carvalho is young enough to still salvage his Liverpool career, but he runs the risk of being stuck on the periphery of Klopp’s squad once he returns from his loan spell, unless he goes out to somewhere else that he’d actually get the game-time he needs.

The onus is on the midfielder to make a positive enough impression in training so that Leipzig boss Marco Rose can no longer overlook him, and then to seize any opportunities he gets at the Red Bull Arena, instead of letting them pass by with a whimper.

One Liverpool youngster is set to be given a welcome opportunity to start during a loan spell which, in the words of one journalist, has been ‘hard’ for him so far.

Fabio Carvalho is spending the 2023/24 campaign at RB Leipzig after struggling to establish himself in the first team at his parent club, but a change of scenery hasn’t necessarily brought about a change of fortunes.

The 21-year-old has played just 44 minutes across the Bundesliga team’s six matches so far this season, with that limited game-time accrued in three substitute appearances (Transfermarkt).

However, when Marco Rose’s side face German second tier outfit Wehen Wiesbaden in cup action next week, that should open the door for the attacker to get his first start for his current side.

In his latest column for CaughtOffside, Christian Falk wrote: “In Fabio Carvalho’s position, Dani Olmo normally plays. He’s injured but there are other more experienced players available like Emil Forsberg and Christoph Baumgartner, so it’s not easy for him.

“Marco Rose will rotate his team in the coming matches and everyone thinks Carvalho will get his chance in the starting-XI when Leipzig play Wehen Wiesbaden in the DFB Pokal. It’s hard for him at the moment, as there’s plenty of competition.”

Little more than a year ago, Carvalho’s future at Liverpool seemed bright, having scored in consecutive Premier League games against Bournemouth and Newcastle, the latter being a 98th-minute winner at Anfield.

However, it proved to be something of a false dawn as he dropped out of the first-team frame later in the season, hence the loan move to Leipzig in search of a fresh start.

It quite hasn’t happed for him yet in Germany even with the injury to Olmo, so if the youngster gets opportunities such as the one for which he’s been earmarked in the DFB Pokal next Wednesday, he simply has to make the most of it.

The route back into contention at Liverpool won’t be easy given the sheer level of competition in midfield and up front at Anfield, but a change of circumstances could possibly open the door for Carvalho in the future.

Some circumstances will be outside his control, but whenever he’s given his opportunity by Rose, it’s up to the 21-year-old to take it. That’ll be his best chance of getting a prolonged run of games in Leipzig and, in turn, impressing sufficiently to convince Klopp of his long-term worth to the Reds.

Fabio Carvalho’s Liverpool future is looking rather uncertain whilst opportunities continue to be limited in the German top-flight amid his loan spell at RB Leipzig.

The Portuguese star has only been granted 18 minutes of action on the pitch but that could all soon be set to change after Dani Olmo picked up an injury whilst on international duty with Spain.

BILD (via Sport Witness) interestingly now suggest that the Reds youngster could now be the man to enter the fray in a more significant manner – even ahead of teammates Emil Forsberg and Xavi Simons.

Time for Carvalho to prove he has a Liverpool future

Though no one wants to see a player as talented as the Spanish international on the sidelines for a lengthy period of time, it may have ultimately provided Carvalho with an opportunity he simply can’t afford to not seize if manager Marco Rose now opts to thrust him into the limelight.

It may not necessarily be make or break for his Liverpool career just yet, but a failure to make the most of his spell in Germany (assuming he’s provided with genuine opportunities to showcase his talents) would leave him with quite the uphill battle back on Merseyside.

We’re more than hopeful that this isn’t a transfer we’ll all look back on as fans and remember as one of the very few our world-class recruitment team got wrong in the Jurgen Klopp era.

Fabio Carvalho has appeared to take aim at Jurgen Klopp over the position in which he was played at Liverpool prior to his loan move to RB Leipzig last month.

The 20-year-old was signed from Fulham by the German only a year ago but, following a season in which the youngster struggled for game-time, he’s been loaned out to the Bundesliga side for the 2023/24 campaign.

He’s now claimed that promises which were made to him regarding his role within the team were broken due to the way in which the manager set up tactically, citing that as the reason why it hasn’t worked out for him at Anfield so far.

As per Transfermarkt, Carvalho said: “I feel like why it didn’t work out at Liverpool was because of the position I was playing. I was playing on the left, which isn’t really my position. I was told that I would play as a no.10, but we didn’t really play with a no.10 last year.

“When we play with a no.10, then I can get on my prominent side, and I am able to turn. That’s why I would say it didn’t work out, and whether I will be here or at Liverpool next year, we will have to see how it works out.”

While Carvalho predominantly played on the left during his 21 appearances for the Reds last season, he was also given a few games in his preferred position as a number 10 (Transfermarkt), so it wasn’t as if Klopp completely neglected the 20-year-old’s desire to play just behind the front three.

Although the manager showed increased tactical flexibility towards the end of the campaign, most notably in terms of Trent Alexander-Arnold’s redeployment, it was long established that his preferred setup was a 4-3-3 in which there wasn’t a ‘number 10’ role in a nominal sense.

You’d therefore imagine that, irrespective of what he may have been told, the ex-Fulham youngster could’ve reasonably expected that there’d be games where he’d be deployed out wide or possibly in a more central midfield berth rather than in behind the attackers.

It’s ultimately Klopp’s choice as to how Liverpool are set up, and who’s selected to carry out his best-laid plans, so there’s an onus on players to be willing to adapt to what the manager asks of them.

Carvalho is a talented prospect, and it’s telling that the Reds weren’t interested in selling him outright, so let’s hope he gets regular game-time at Leipzig and has a fruitful spell in Germany so that he comes back to Anfield a more refined player who’s ready to truly make his mark for his parent club.

Fabio Carvalho has revealed that he and Jurgen Klopp hadn’t spoken much prior to the youngster’s loan exit from Liverpool last month.

The 20-year-old will spend the upcoming campaign at RB Leipzig as he seeks regular game-time, having been largely frustrated on that front at Anfield last season, playing just eight minutes in the Premier League following the World Cup break (Transfermarkt).

As per The Athletic, the player has said that the manager hadn’t given him any words of advice prior to departing for Germany, although he didn’t view that as a negative.

Carvalho stated of Klopp: “I don’t really speak to him, so he didn’t give me any advice. I have to just learn as I go and I don’t think that’s a bad thing. I feel like that’s better anyway, for me to mature as a person and as a player.”

It’s surprising to hear Carvalho saying that he doesn’t speak much with Klopp, for you’d imagine that players would be in regular dialogue with their manager, even if they’re not an integral member of the first team.

Despite the youngster rarely featuring last season and discussions over a possible loan exit in January, his application on the training ground didn’t waver, something for which his boss praised him publicly (The Athletic).

His move to Leipzig presents him with an opportunity to hear a fresh voice in Marco Rose, who hopefully will give the 20-year-old the game-time he’s been lacking at Liverpool and enable the attacker to develop as a player at senior level.

Even though Carvalho had fallen to the periphery at Anfield, it was telling that the Reds didn’t want to lose him permanently amid interest in a full transfer last month, which suggests that they see him as a valuable long-term presence.

Moving to Germany has taken the youngster out of his comfort zone, and ideally he’ll return to Merseyside next year all the better for the experience and fully ready to make his mark at his parent club.

Liverpool supporters will not be too surprised to hear that Fabio Carvalho has left the club on loan but his comments after being announced as an RB Leipzig player reveal why he was tempted by a move to Germany.

Speaking with his new team’s official website, the 20-year-old said: “My aim is to play as much as possible – in the league, in the cup and above all in the UEFA Champions League.

“RB Leipzig stands for giving young players exactly this opportunity to and that’s why the club is perfect for me to be able to develop further.”

READ MORE: Time ticking for Liverpool to beat UEFA transfer deadline in Szoboszlai deal; not his ‘€70m release clause’

It seems clear from these comments that the former Fulham man was disappointed with the lack of opportunities handed to him at Anfield and that has been a major motivator in his decision to leave the club.

Although the deal is only on loan, whispers around this move seemed to suggest that the Portugal-born midfielder was happy to leave the club on a permanent basis but it was us who wanted to ensure that he remained our player.

The best case scenario seems to be that the talented young player thrives in the Bundesliga and then comes back to Merseyside with more confidence and game time under his belt.

Whether we can convince the player that he should consider his future as a Red, is another thing all together but for now – let’s hope that this move goes well.

Even if this does ultimately prove to be just a makeweight in the deal for Dominik Szoboszlai, we all wish Fabio the very best for the new season.

A number of players have already left Liverpool this summer and it now appears to be only a matter of time before another departure is confirmed – albeit a temporary one.

Fabio Carvalho is on the verge of signing for Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig on loan for the upcoming campaign and he’s been spotted in Germany after reportedly completing his medical.

Sky Sports Germany’s Philipp Hinze uploaded a video on his Twitter page which appeared to show the 20-year-old getting into the back of a vehicle following the completion of the relevant medical checks.

No official confirmation has been made by either club but it’s now a matter of when rather than if.

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed it is a ‘done deal’ but that there is no option for Leipzig to buy the ex-Fulham star at the end of the loan deal.

He found game time under Jurgen Klopp hard to come by last term and he’ll therefore be eager to show what he’s made of in the Bundesliga and return back to Merseyside a better player.

Fabio Carvalho is now set to take a brief hiatus from Liverpool Football Club after the Reds agreed a loan deal with German outfit RB Leipzig for the upcoming campaign.

Fabrizio Romano reports on Twitter that the midfielder – the fifth to leave the club after Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner and Arthur Melo – won’t come attached with buy option clause in the deal taking him to the Bundesliga.

After weeks of speculation around his long-term future at L4, it’s reassuring to see that the side hasn’t given up on the former Fulham starlet completely.

There remains an unanswered question, of course, as to where the Englishman fits in a Liverpool squad in the long-run.

Does Jurgen Klopp and his fellow coaching staff perceive Carvalho to be a talent fit to grace the midfield for the years to come? Is he seen as an effective option to switch between the middle of the park and forward line as and when tactics require?

These are questions they’ll no doubt be hoping to see his loan spell in Germany answer effectively. If not, time spent abroad should hopefully at least preserve his value in case we look to make a profit on our investment.

Liverpool have reportedly agreed to loan out Fabio Carvalho to RB Leipzig for the 2023/24 season.

Following a tweet from Fabrizio Romano on Friday morning which hinted that the prospective move could be done ‘next week’, 90min claimed that the Reds have agreed a straight loan deal with the Bundesliga outfit, with no purchase option or obligation included.

Anfield chiefs were seemingly eager to retain the 20-year-old for pre-season at least in order to allow Jurgen Klopp the chance to decide on the player’s short-term future, but the youngster wanted the situation resolved at the earliest opportunity and now looks set to get closure.

Carvalho’s departure for Liverpool had been on the cards for some time, with several English clubs having also shown an interest in signing him, but it’s Leipzig who seem to have won the race to acquire him for the forthcoming campaign.

It’s probably the best scenario the Reds could’ve hoped for if there was no realistic chance of keeping the player on Merseyside, and not just because the structure of the deal means the club won’t relinquish any control over his future.

By loaning him to the Red Bull-owned outfit, Klopp’s team have ensured the 20-year-old won’t be in direct competition with his parent club next season, while he’ll also get to play in the Champions League with Marco Rose’s side, who qualified for the competition once again.

Liverpool will also get their wish of not offloading him permanently, and doing so after only one year at the club (and precious little opportunity to prove his worth) would’ve seemed rather foolhardy.

It should be to everyone’s benefit that Carvalho’s immediate future now seems decided, with the player hopefully getting greater scope for game-time while still competing at a high level, and the Reds retaining ownership of a talented young footballer instead of dispensing with him outright.

Fabio Carvalho’s proposed loan move to RB Leipzig could potentially be finalised next week, according to an update from Fabrizio Romano.

The 20-year-old has been mooted to depart Liverpool this summer, either on a temporary or permanent basis, and it looks increasingly as if Germany could be his next destination.

The Italian has claimed that the youngster could soon be bound for the Red Bull Arena for the upcoming campaign, although he doesn’t expect him to sever his ties with Anfield completely.

Romano tweeted in the early hours of Friday morning: “RB Leipzig and Liverpool are closing in on Fabio Carvalho deal on loan until the end of the current season — clubs now working on final details to get it done next week.

“Understand deal does NOT include buy option clause at this stage, club source confirms.”

There’s been plenty of discourse about Carvalho’s future over the past month or so, but this appears to be the most conclusive update so far, with a move to Leipzig seeming imminent.

That it’s come from a source as trusted and reliable as Romano also adds credence to the probability of the 20-year-old spending the 2023/24 season in Germany with Marco Rose’s side.

It’ll come as no great surprise that the player looks set to move, having seen his game-time at Liverpool recede dramatically – he’s played 75 minutes of first-team football in 2023, 66 of which came during an FA Cup third round replay against Wolves in January (Transfermarkt).

Podcaster Jack Collins went as far as to claim that Carvalho has been ‘deeply unhappy’ with the Reds, feeling ‘let down’ and wanting to ‘get out of there’.

Only the player himself could vouch for whether that’s actually the case, although he may well see the prospect of joining Leipzig on loan – and possibly playing in the Champions League next season – as far more attractive than spending several more months on the periphery at Anfield.

At least the reported absence of a purchase option means Liverpool won’t be letting go of a talented young player completely, and ideally he’d come back from his year in Germany a much more rounded footballer who’s truly ready to become a stalwart in Jurgen Klopp’s first team.

Alan Hutton has suggested that it would be ‘a decent move’ for Liverpool’s Fabio Carvalho to trade Anfield for the Gtech Community Stadium this summer.

Key man Ivan Toney is set to be out of action until 16 January 2024 owing to an eight-month ban for breaching the FA’s betting rules last term, and the former Fulham star has been advised that he could plug the gap.

“You look at Brentford, they had an outstanding season,” the former Aston Villa star told Football Insider.

“They try and play decent football, they are missing Ivan Toney and need somebody else that is going to take that load. It is a decent move.

“West Ham as well have a lot of tricky players. Is he going to play there week in week out?”

A lack of minutes accumulated last term could very well convince Thomas Frank’s men otherwise, though it could prove a shrewd move if they can restore the attacking midfielder’s Championship form.

19 goal contributions (11 goals and eight assists) registered across the English second-tier and FA Cup in 2021/22 is certainly nothing to sniff at.

At 20 years of age too, it has to be accepted that there is plenty of developmental time ahead for a talent not lacking in raw potential.

Whether we’re prepared to sanction the exit of a starlet we were pushing to sign as early as the winter window back in 2022/23 remains a point of debate.

Carvalho is something of a nowhere man fo Liverpool as things currently stand; he’s unlikely to fend off competition from Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez on the left-flank and lacks the physicality to compete effectively in the midfield.

Still, we’d be surprised to see anything other than a loan deal agreed at this stage.

Liverpool fans are often more interested in the incoming transfer dealings of the club than anyone headed in the other direction but there’s been plenty of stories about one man leaving the squad.

Speaking with GIVEMESPORT, Ste Hoare responded to rumours about one player: “I think Fabio Carvalho needs to go and play as high-level football as possible…

“I think he’s better than the Championship but, at the moment, he looks like he’s just not a Klopp player.”

It seems a little harsh to write off the Anfield career of a player so young, after just one season and with limited minutes offered to him in this short time.

There have been so many stories about Fabio Carvalho wanting to depart Merseyside but it does also appear that the club aren’t willing to let him leave just yet.

This suggests that those within the club do think he has the capacity to be a ‘Klopp player’ and so there may well still be a future for him in red, even if he doesn’t see it himself or rather doesn’t want to.

The former Fulham man was obviously frustrated with a lack of opportunities and doesn’t see anything changing, with the arrival of Alexis Mac Allister and further activity expected – you can’t really blame him.

The 20-year-old has a long career ahead of him though and he needs to ensure that any decisions he makes this summer don’t negatively affect the course of where his story may well end up.

It’s up to the player and the club to make the right decision in the best interest of all parties, which will hopefully end in a long and happy career with the Reds.

Liverpool have received an offer from West Ham for Fabio Carvalho, that’s according to Football Insider.

The 20-year-old, who struggled to earn regular game time under Jurgen Klopp this term, is the subject of a season-long loan offer from Premier League outfit as they look to build on their recent Europa Conference League success.

Brentford and Burnley, as well as Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig, are also believed to be keen on the Lisbon-born talent with the Merseysiders currently in the process of deciding whether to let their No. 28 leave on a temporary or permanent basis (with a buy-back clause).

Liverpool are pretty well stocked in the attacking department at the moment and if Carvalho is to remain at L4 for the upcoming campaign he may once again see the majority of his time spent watching on from the sidelines.

The Portugal U21 international was only signed from Fulham last summer and his struggle for regular minutes this season bemused many supporters.

There’s no doubt that he’s full of talent but Klopp has struggled to integrate him into the side.

Our German tactician admitted that the player was ‘not happy’ with his lack of game time this season but labelled him as a ‘role model’ for his character and quality attitude in training.

He needs to be playing regular first team football in order to ensure he continues developing and we therefore believe a temporary move away from the club would make sense.

Gaining experience in the Premier League, as well as the prospect of playing Europa League football with the Hammers, will set Carvalho in good stead for the rest of his career – hopefully on Merseyside.
