Jamie Carragher’s wit never fails to entertain, with the Scouser on top form as ever in his latest appearance on CBS Sports.

Presenter Kate Abdo had been commenting on Liverpool’s anthem ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone‘, which invited the former Reds defender to take aim at Micah Richards over his allegiances.

“The Man City ambassador who supports Arsenal and sings ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone‘,” the 45-year-old said, much to the dismay of his colleague.

To be completely fair to Carra – someone had to say it, didn’t they? Sorry, Micah!

Gary Lineker joked that Micah Richards successfully cursed Alisson Becker by speaking to the Liverpool goalkeeper prior to the 1-1 draw against Manchester City on Saturday.

The Brazilian had a rare off-day at the Etihad Stadium, having been partly culpable for Erling Haaland’s goal while also getting away with some stray, risky passes out from the back which didn’t find a teammate.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, the Match of the Day host teased the ex-City defender over his pre-game chat with the 31-year-old.

Lineker jibed: “I saw you before the game and you were talking to the Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson. Considering he’s not even a Manchester City player you were a bit crawly and all that ‘oh you’re so good!’

“You asked him a reasonable question, though. You said ‘You’re the best in the league at one-on-ones, what’s your secret? You’re so great at it’

“Then obviously a few minutes into the game Haaland goes through, knocks it straight past him and it goes through him. Whatever you did to curse him, it worked Micah! That’s why he’s the ambassador at Man City!”

When fellow pundit Alan Shearer joked that Alisson would never speak to Richards again as a result, the former City defender replied, “We call that reverse psychology, that one” and burst into his familiar excitable laugh.

Alisson doesn’t need anyone else to tell him that he was well below his usual best on Saturday, but one shaky performance doesn’t detract from the heroics that he regularly performs for Liverpool.

Even at the Etihad three days ago, he still made a couple of important saves, and it’s beyond argument that he’s rescued far more points for the Reds than he may have cost us.

Unfortunately, we could have to manage without the Brazil goalkeeper for a few weeks after he appeared to tweak his hamstring in the closing minutes of the 1-1 draw at the weekend. Caoimhin Kelleher is a more than capable deputy, but the first-choice stopper would nonetheless be a very difficult presence to replace.

Liverpool and Manchester City endured a tough face-off in the Premier League but Micah Richards thought that the game highlighted ‘the worst’ of one of Jurgen Klopp’s players.

Speaking on Sky Sports, the former defender said: For me today, we’ve seen the best and the worst of Trent today. From a full-back’s perspective, his first thought is always how can he affect the ball going forward?

“How can he get up the pitch? But in situations today, there were times where he couldn’t affect the play defensively”.

Although this assessment was also generously laced with praise for the man who scored his 17th goal for the Reds at the Etihad Stadium, it’s clearly repeatedly pushing the agenda that the Scouser isn’t a great defender.

To keep the dangerous Jeremy Doku relatively quiet, have a positive effect on both ends of the pitch and be awarded the man of the match award on Sky Sports – clearly shows that our No.66 did have a very good game and was far from ‘his worst’.

Micah Richards believes that Liverpool may have missed a trick in the summer transfer window by not moving for James Ward-Prowse.

The 29-year-old left Southampton after their relegation last season, joining West Ham for £30m in August (BBC Sport). He’s enjoyed a very impressive start to life with David Moyes’ side, racking up two goals and nine assists in his first 16 games for the club (Transfermarkt).

Speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, BBC pundit Alan Shearer said of the midfielder: “He is one of the signings of the season as well, Ward-Prowse. What did they pay for him, £30m? What a bargain! What a season he’s having.

“We did a piece on Match of the Day about him and those set pieces and where he puts the ball time after time, week after week, it’s just phenomenal what a dead ball player he is.”

When Gary Lineker posed the question as to whether the Premier League’s “so-called bigger clubs” would regret not signing Ward-Prowse, Richards replied: “100%. Liverpool should have bought him. He was destined for Liverpool. Replace Henderson, he does exactly what Henderson can do and he has delivery as well. I’m thinking, why has that not happened?”

READ MORE: ‘You’ve got to…’ – Paul Merson urges Klopp to start £135k-p/w Liverpool duo against Man City

We can certainly see why Richards has suggested that Liverpool might’ve missed the boat by passing up the chance to sign Ward-Prowse, despite being linked with him earlier this year.

He’s very much proven in the Premier League, while he’d have also helped with the Reds’ homegrown quota and picked up where Jordan Henderson and James Milner left off in terms of his leadership qualities in the middle of the park.

Shearer highlighted the set-piece threat of the 29-year-old, and it’s a pertinent point as only three top-flight teams have scored more often from this avenue than LFC (four). It doesn’t seem a coincidence that West Ham have matched our tally in that regard thanks to the ex-Southampton captain (WhoScored).

Imagine how lethal Liverpool would be from dead-ball situations if Ward-Prowse were providing the ammunition for the likes of Mo Salah, Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota.

Maybe the Anfield hierarchy had reservations about the Irons midfielder’s age, although that didn’t stop them from bringing in 30-year-old Wataru Endo for £16m (BBC Sport) in August.

The Englishman could certainly have been an astute pickup for the Reds during the summer, but considering how the new additions to our midfield have performed so far, Jurgen Klopp probably won’t have too many regrets over the players who didn’t come to Anfield.

Micah Richards may be supporting Manchester City when Liverpool travel to the Etihad on Saturday but the former City defender has been speaking about one Reds star ahead of the game.

Salah was sent out on loan to Italy while he was still at Chelsea and while playing alongside our No. 11 Richards quickly realised that the Stamford Bridge outfit had made a mistake by letting the winger leave.

The former England international was also eager to highlight that the Egyptian King is ‘the nicest guy ever’!

We really are lucky to have him – let’s hope he can fire us towards all three points at the weekend.

Micah Richards appeared to suggest that criticism of Virgil van Dijk is a little harsh following a perceived drop in standards.

The Englishman pointed to a serious injury the No.4 suffered at the hands of a grossly reckless challenge from Jordan Pickford back in the 2020/21 campaign, which left the former in need of surgery to repair his anterior cruciate ligament damage.

“His standards have dropped. When you do your cruciate it takes a while. Everyone is lumping on him saying that he’s lost a yard of pace, you’re going to lose a yard of pace when you do your cruciate,” the former Manchester City defender spoke on BBC MOTD Top 10 podcast (via The Boot Room).

Somehow, the England ‘keeper escaped the incident scot-free, despite our first-choice centre-back missing most of the season due to the damage he’d sustained during the Merseyside derby.

We have to admit there’s still a little bit of a grudge held on our part over what was a totally senseless act from a fellow professional in the English top-flight.

That said, fortunately, the Breda-born defender appears to have gotten over the worst of the physical and mental barriers that followed his recovery and is approaching levels previously witnessed on a consistent basis in our title and Champions League-winning years.

Richards is right to point out that standards have dropped to an extent, though it’s critical such debate is contextualised around the nature of the injury he suffered three seasons ago.

Micah Richards couldn’t quite believe what he was seeing when Mo Salah struck late twice against Everton to seal the lion’s share of the points for Liverpool.

The Englishman continues to find the Reds attacker’s efficiency in front of goal ‘staggering’ despite it being ‘one of the worst games’ he’d seen the Egyptian have.

“How good is Mo Salah? Seriously,” the former Manchester City star spoke on BBC Radio 5 Live (via BBC Sport).

“That was one of the worst games I’ve seen him play the other day in the derby. He was trying to take people on, wasn’t working; dribbling wasn’t great; trying to make runs wasn’t really coming on.

“But then strokes a penalty home like he’s got the most confidence ever.

“Then on the counter-attack, he’s just so cool in front of goal; he’s so, so good in front of goal it’s staggering.

“For a player not to be playing well and just find the net like he does… I just think he’s an outstanding player and he’s so consistent with it, with scoring goals.

“Maybe not playing the best every single week but scoring goals… wow, what a player.”

It takes the 31-year-old’s league tally up to 11 goal contributions (seven goals and four assists) in nine games.

Liverpool made the right call this summer

Putting aside the potential stupidity of selling your top player with mere days left in the window to somehow find a replacement worthy of filling his boots, we undoubtedly made the right call in staving off Saudi interest.

12 goal contributions in 11 games across all competitions is quite the start to the campaign from Salah and yet further proof of his continued importance.

The inevitable question, of course, is whether we’ll be able to withstand more money being thrown at us next summer with the player’s contract then having only a year left before expiry.

Perhaps Liverpool will have no choice in the matter but to offer our star man yet another extension – if he’s open to the possibility!

Micah Richards has claimed that Liverpool star Mo Salah ‘doesn’t do a lot else’ other than score goals.

The 31-year-old has become recognised as one of the best players in the world since joining the Reds from Roma back in 2017.

He has won every major trophy possible during his time at Anfield and also became the club’s record Premier League goalscorer last season.

“You all have to know your role, you have someone to score the goals, someone to link it all together and someone with a lot of pace. You look at Liverpool, Salah scores all the goals, he doesn’t do a lot else really,” Richards told BBC Match of the Day Top 10 Podcast (as quoted by The Boot Room).

“Salah doesn’t do more than score goals? He’s got quite a lot of assists you know,” Gary Lineker replied.

“Yeah, but it’s rolls across the box, it’s not like dribbling past three players and then, that’s what I’d say,” Richards concluded.

READ MORE: ‘It’s cliche but it’s real’ – Liverpool fans will love what Joe Gomez has said about the Anfield atmosphere

Richards mustn’t watch Liverpool much if he thinks our No. 11 only score goals.

Salah already has four assists in eight Premier League games this season.

The amount of defensive work that the Egyptian King does as well as creating goals is remarkable and it’s simply wrong for the ex-Manchester City man to say the forward is nothing more than a goalscorer.

Jurgen Klopp demands that all of his attacking players defend from the front and Mo will often be seen back in his own area helping his teammates out defensively.

We really are lucky to have the Egypt international at the club and long may his impressive performances continue.

Micah Richards believes that Liverpool were hard done by over one potentially pivotal refereeing decision in today’s 2-2 draw at Brighton.

While there was thankfully no repeat of the incredibly contentious circumstances of defeat at Tottenham, the Reds will feel they have one legitimate grievance regarding a call made by Anthony Taylor.

Pascal Gross was penalised for a tug on Dominik Szoboszlai’s shirt before half-time as the official pointed to the penalty spot, but the Seagulls player got away without being carded.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Richards believes that the Germany international could’ve prevented a clear goalscoring opportunity and should’ve been sent off.

He said: (via Sky Sports live web commentary, 15:58): “I think by the letter of the law, it’s a clear and obvious opportunity. It should have been a red card. He’s just about to slide it into the net, if he didn’t pull him. A clear and obvious goal-scoring opportunity.”

As explained by the Liverpool Echo, it’s understood that ‘it was felt that Szoboszlai was not moving toward goal and he would have to gain possession in order for the chance to become a goal scoring opportunity’, hence why Taylor didn’t reach for a red card.

That point might be debatable, but Gross definitely got off lightly by avoiding even a yellow from the referee for what was as clear as shirt tug as you could wish to see.

The fact that Szoboszlai’s jersey was grabbed at neck height also made it a potentially dangerous infraction from the Brighton player, who should’ve been booked at least.

The Seagulls later had a penalty shout of their own for what they felt was a handball offence by Virgil van Dijk, which rightly fell on deaf ears, but another official might still have given it on a different day.

The same could be said of a yellow – maybe even a red – card for Gross.

Liverpool fans have a new icon following the summer signing of Dominik Szoboszlai.

The Hungary international has hit the ground running following his summer move from RB Leipzig to the Reds and after netting a sublime goal against Leicester City on Wednesday night the 22-year-old has been on the receiving end of comparisons with Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard.

It may be early days in our new No. 8’s career but it’s already fair to say that Micah Richards’ comments from the start of the season have already been proved wrong.

The former Manchester City defender told The Rest Is Football Podcast (via Sport Bible) ahead of the new season: “Szoboszlai is a good player, I just don’t know if he can deal with the pace of the league. I think he’s going to be a slow burner.”

A lot of players struggle to cope with the pace and intensity of the Premier League but Szoboszlai is thriving at the moment.

He appears to be getting better and better each week and it’s no surprise that he’s played every single minute of Liverpool’s six league games so far.

We will need the former RB Salzburg man at his best tomorrow when we travel to the capital to face Spurs for what is the toughest test of our campaign so far.

Winning the battle in midfield will be massive against Ange Postecoglou’s side if we’re to come away with anything from the game.

Micah Richards believes that one Liverpool player would legitimately be worth £100m or more in two years’ time.

Earlier this month, the Reds received an offer of £150m for Mo Salah from Al-Ittihad, but that was given short shrift by the Anfield hierarchy, who stuck to their public stance that the 31-year-old isn’t for sale.

Not even the closure of the Saudi Pro League transfer window 13 days ago has halted the discourse surrounding the Egyptian’s future, though, with Alan Shearer saying that he thinks LFC would sell if a similarly lofty bid is submitted in January.

However, Richards – who appeared alongside the ex-Newcastle striker on The Rest is Football podcast – sounded a different message to the Liverpool powerbrokers.

He said: “Don’t sell. No, don’t sell. I agree from a financial point of view, but just what he’s given the club. Salah will probably play for another seven or eight years.

“I think he has another couple of years at Liverpool and would still be able to demand £100m+ in even two seasons. I would say hold tight.”

It speaks volumes for just how phenomenal Salah is that, even though he’ll turn 33 in the summer of 2025, Richards believes the Egyptian would still be worthy of a nine-figure valuation from Liverpool – assuming he’s still at Anfield by then.

There may be a common perception in football that, once outfield players cross their 30th birthday, they’ve already hit their prime and are gradually on the descent in terms of their performance levels.

However, we’ve seen in recent years how the likes of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Robert Lewandowski and Zlatan Ibrahimovic have still delivered a consistent end product at a very high level of football well into their 30s.

Like that quintet, Salah is a ‘top level’ talent (to use Rio Ferdinand’s phrasing on TNT Sports) who deserves to be recognised alongside such elite company, hence Richards’ belief that Liverpool’s legendary number 11 could still be worth £100m or more in two years’ time.

The moment will eventually come that the Reds would be best served to cash in on the Egyptian, but when you consider that he’s either scored or set up at least one goal in his last 11 Premier League matches (Transfermarkt), that parting juncture is still a sizeable distance away.

Micah Richards has cast some doubt over how quickly Liverpool summer signing Dominik Szoboszlai will adapt to the demands of Premier League football.

The Merseysiders are set to begin their Premier League campaign with one of the thinnest squads in the English top-flight following the departures of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho.

“Szoboszlai is a good player, I just don’t know if he can deal with the pace of the league. I think he’s going to be a slow burner,” the former Manchester City star spoke on The Rest Is Football podcast (via The Boot Room).

The former RB Leipzig ace had been brought in alongside Alexis Mac Allister to complement a midfield many expected would still contain the club’s captain and specialist number six.

With a potentially completely new-look midfield three (or box four) set to grace Stamford Bridge in six days’ time, however, Richards’ concerns are entirely valid.

That’s not to take aim at our latest recruit but rather expose the need for our recruitment team to expedite our business in the market.

Romeo Lavia appears the most likely option to follow our Hungarian international (on a reported £120,000-a-week, according to Capology) through the doors of the AXA training centre – an addition that must be considered a minimum requirement.

That may not entirely alleviate the pressure on Szoboszlai’s shoulders, though it’s sure to make our midfield department to tick far better this term as opposed to life with only Stefan Bacjetic (highly talented as he is) and Tyler Morton competing for the holding midfield role.

Jamie Carragher was left in stitches prior to Manchester City’s Champions League final defeat of Inter Milan last night after fellow pundit Micah Richards was on the receiving end of a sly dig from presenter Kate Abdo.

The former Liverpool man was also joined by ex-Arsenal icon Thierry Henry at the Ataturk Stadium and as CBS Sports began their coverage of the final Abdo gave the three pundits their own individual introductions.

Henry was described as a ‘French World Cup winner’, our former No. 23 was labelled as ‘one of Liverpool’s most famous sons’ before it was Richards’ turn to be introduced to viewers – well, so everyone thought!

The 41-year-old presenter began by saying ‘a man who helped launch a football dynasty and is an icon in Manchester now and around the world…’ before taking a short pause and continuing with ‘the one and only Peter Schmeichel will join us. Micah Richards is here too’.

Carragher burst into laughter alongside the former City defender who also saw the funny side of Abdo’s joke in what really was a quality moment.

Sadly Richards was also smiling at full-time as the Sky Blues lifted the European Cup for the first time ever.
