Phil Thompson has revealed that Jurgen Klopp turned down a job offer from Manchester United, and the German manager’s wife played no small part in that fact.
Ulla Klopp, the boss’ better half, is said to have informed Jurgen that it “wasn’t right”, but was all for Liverpool when the Reds came knocking.
Speaking to TV2 in Denmark, via the Daily Mail, Thompson said: “I interviewed Klopp for Sky, and I asked if he and Liverpool were created for each other. He looked at me and asked ‘Why?’
“Then Klopp told me he could have taken over Manchester United, but his wife said it wasn’t right.
“When Liverpool arrived, his wife said it was right. There is something strange there. It is as if he’s created for Liverpool.“
At the time of this, United were stuttering under the guide of David Moyes and were looking around for a new manager, but Klopp turned them down.
Not too much later, the German boss would become the latest manager of Liverpool and the rest, as they say, is history.
Reds supporters have to be thankful to Ulla Klopp though – without her intervention, who knows if Jurgen would have been tempted to take United up?
I mean, he’s previously stated that he had his own reasons, but still, it’s not as if his wife’s wishes wouldn’t have come into consideration!
