Marco Silva described the first two goals scored against his Fulham side in Liverpool’s dramatic 4-3 win on Sunday as ‘world-class’.

The Reds twice took the lead in the first half, only to be pegged back by the Cottagers both times. The away side later hit the front before a brace of goals in a manic 80-second period near the end of normal time ensured a comeback victory for Jurgen Klopp’s team.

The 46-year-old felt that his outfit deserved ‘more’ than a gallant defeat but was awestruck by the quality of LFC’s first two goals, a Trent Alexander-Arnold free kick (which in truth is his despite it being officially credited as a Bernd Leno own goal) and a long-distance thunderbolt by Alexis Mac Allister.

Silva told Fulham’s official website afterwards: “This afternoon, the way they scored the goals, the first two were world class – a free-kick and that great, great goal from Mac Allister. It’s not easy to do something against these types of situations. These goals aren’t something that happen often.”

It felt as if Liverpool’s players were trying to upstage one another to win the club’s goal of the month contest, such was the quality of all four netted by the Reds.

The first-half strikes from Trent and Mac Allister were just rewards for overall superb performances which saw them complete 99 passes altogether (66 and 33 respectively), win six duels (four and two) and complete nine accurate long balls (eight and one), via Sofascore.

While statistics such as the home side dominating the shot count by 26-9 and the xG battle by 2.23 to 1.21 (Sofascore) would suggest that they were good value for their ultimate triumph, Fulham still posed more than enough problems for Silva to reasonably claim that his team could well have gone back to London with a result.

It took four spectacular goals from Liverpool to preserve their 100% record at Anfield this season, even if Klopp must privately be wishing that he’d probably rather have four Dirk Kuyt-esque tap-ins in a comfortable 4-0!

Liverpool are about to face Fulham in the Premier League and Marco Silva has taken to the media to share his thoughts on the game.

Speaking with the press, the 46-year-old said (via fulhamfc.com): “It’s always really tough to play at Anfield. The quality they have, the manager they have, the crowd is going to push them – they are three really important factors that can make things really difficult for us.

“They have started really well at home. They have been impressive, they have been perfect at home until now.

“In the Premier League – six games, six wins. And 10 out of 10 [all competitions]. They’ve been winning all the games at home so far.

“Tough task for us, really difficult one, but – as always – we go there to play our game, to do our best. We know it’s going to be tough, like it always is in the Premier League, against a top side in a very good moment, who are in very good form.

“But we have to keep improving, to keep in the process that we have to keep improving, trying to do the right things and, of course, do our best to take points.”

It’s clear that the former Everton boss has some fear about returning to Anfield but it’s also in his interest to take the pressure off his own players and put the pressure back on us.

Currently sat in 14th position, the Londoners will be hoping for any kind of result against Jurgen Klopp’s side – even if the odds are stacked against them.

We will be hoping to close the gap on Manchester City and Arsenal and, if results go our way, maybe even end the weekend as table-toppers.

Our home form has always been impressive but, other than a shock loss to Leeds United last season, we’ve been near to impervious on our own turf in recent years.

In Europe and domestically, the Reds have been back to their best in L4 this season and let’s hope this continues in our next match and for the rest of the season.

Let’s hope that the Cottagers’ best is not good enough on Sunday too and that we continue a strong start to the campaign.

Marco Silva has labelled the decision to award Liverpool a penalty against Fulham last night as ’embarrassing’.

With the scoreline goalless as the clock ticked towards half time Darwin Nunez nicked the ball from Issa Diop inside the visitors’ area before appearing to be caught by the defender.

There may have been very minimal contact but it was enough to send our No. 27 to the ground and for referee Stuart Attwell to point to the spot – a decision that left the former Everton boss bemused.

“Coming to the half-time, losing 1-0, the way they scored the goal, I have to say that is embarrassing,” Silva said (as quoted by the Liverpool Echo).

“Today in football to give a penalty like that, after the VAR didn’t take that penalty (away) it is difficult to understand. I will say nothing more because after it will be difficult for me and I don’t want to create more problems for me. But it’s almost impossible to understand that penalty.

READ MORE: Jose Enrique tips Liverpool star to become ‘one of the best in the world’; Klopp already labelled him an ‘exceptional talent’

“No, I didn’t speak with the referee. It will not change anything. Why am I going to speak to him? I know what I’m going to listen in the next few days, that it was a harsh decision, when Darwin touched the ball he start to dive himself but after he touched his left leg with Issa, they are going to say it is harsh but the referee gave and after the VAR cannot take (away).

“It is always the same conversation. I didn’t speak with the referee at the end or at half-time. I had some words with the fourth official.

“Issa told me that it is clear not penalty. Issa spoke with the referee during the second half and I know what the referee said to Issa as well. For us it is clear not penalty and the VAR should took that penalty or not allow that decision to go from the referee. The referee made a mistake and the VAR is there to take that decision and not allow the penalty to go on. That’s clear for me.”

We can certainly understand Silva’s comments.

It was one of those decisions that if it goes against you then you’re left raging but if it’s in your favour then you can see why it’s given.

In all honesty there probably wasn’t enough contact to send the Uruguayan tumbling to the floor but VAR Tony Harrington reviewed the incident and was satisfied with the on field decision.

The Fulham boss recently served a two-game touchline ban after being sent off against Manchester United in the FA Cup last month so he was trying his best to remain calm with his comments but his frustration is still clear.

We can be grateful for the decision as it was a huge three points for Jurgen Klopp’s side and let’s hope for another victory against Brentford on Saturday evening!

Marco Silva singled out one Liverpool player for praise following the Reds’ 1-0 win over Fulham at Anfield tonight.

The home side were ultimately indebted to Alisson for preserving the three points after the goalkeeper pulled off a stunning save to deny Carlos Vinicius from close range late in the second half.

Speaking to BBC MOTD after the match, the Cottagers boss said: “Alisson in that moment did so well. It was a very good counter-attack from us. Credit to Alisson in that moment and to Willian and Carlos Vinicius to create that.”

While Mo Salah may have been the match-winner with his converted penalty in the first half, he and his teammates can be hugely grateful towards the Brazilian for that pivotal intervention in the closing minutes.

Liverpool’s number one has been immense all season, preserving vital points for the Reds with saves that he had no right to make, and he was very impressive overall tonight.

As per Sofascore, he made three stops in total and was the second highest-rated player on the night behind Trent Alexander-Arnold, also recording a 95% passing accuracy as he misplaced just two of his 38 passes.

Silva’s praise of Alisson was wholly deserved, and every Kopite will know just how crucial the 30-year-old has been for us throughout the campaign, coming up with the goods again tonight.

Fulham manager Marco Silva has confirmed that two of his players won’t feature against Liverpool on Wednesday night due to season-ending injuries.

Andreas Pereira and Tim Ream were both forced off during the Cottagers’ defeat to Manchester City on Sunday, and neither will feature again for the rest of the campaign.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of tomorrow’s clash at Anfield, the 45-year-old said (via fulhamfc.com): “Not good news. On Tim Ream, he has broken his arm and will be out until the end of the season. The situation of Andreas Pereira will be the same, he will not play anymore this season.

“We are waiting for more updates from the exams this morning, an MRI as well, and when we are going to be more sure about everything, we are going to give more feedback to you, but both are not going to play anymore this season.”

Silva added that Fulham will ‘assess’ the fitness of Willian in training today after he missed their last two games due to a hamstring problem.

The injuries to Ream and Pereira have deprived the Cottagers of the only two players to have started every Premier League match for them up to this point of the campaign (WhoScored), so their losses will no doubt be felt heavily.

The latter could be a particularly big miss, with his 10 top-flight goal contributions in 2022/23 the second highest total at Craven Cottage behind leading scorer Aleksandar Mitrovic (WhoScored).

The Serbian continues to serve an eight-match ban for pushing Chris Kavanagh during the FA Cup defeat to Manchester United in March (Sky Sports), and Fulham have lost four of their last six matches in his absence.

Willian’s potential omission could also be felt by Silva’s team, with the ex-Chelsea winger completing more dribbles per game than any of his teammates this season (1.4) and boasting the squad’s second highest rate for key passes (1.6 per match), as per WhoScored.

All of those players would be big absences for the Cottagers if they’re unable to feature against Liverpool, which in theory should make the Reds’ task simpler.

Nonetheless, it’s never nice to witness players missing through injury, and as football fans we always want to see the best exponents of the game on the pitch. We wish Pereira and Ream well in their recoveries from their respective season-ending setbacks.

Marco Silva has claimed that his Fulham side deserved more than a point from yesterday’s opening Premier League clash with Liverpool.

The Craven Cottage outfit led Jurgen Klopp’s side twice in Saturday’s early kick-off but didn’t quite have enough to hold out for the three points as Mo Salah equalised with just 10 minutes remaining.

The 45-year-old believes his side ‘matched’ the Reds and described Fulham’s first-half performance as ‘almost perfect’

“No, it didn’t feel like a victory. It felt like a draw. But I think we deserved more from the game than a point,” Silva said (as quoted by the Liverpool Echo).

“Liverpool had more control in the second half but I think that our organisation and our great, great first half – they have the individual quality to create chances – was almost perfect.

“The way we started and the intensity we had was really good and I have to congratulate our fans and our players, it was a great atmosphere.

“We know how Liverpool are aggressive when they attack the space behind and we controlled those moments in the first half. They are not just really good with the ball, they are really aggressive in the right way without the ball and we matched them from the first to the last minute of the game.”

The former Everton boss was also asked about the importance of avoiding defeat on the opening day following their return to the Premier League this term.

“It’s important,” he said. “We came from a great, great season. It’s always important to start with a good result. Three points would have been better but a good performance and the right attitude and commitment and desire, we showed all that.”

Liverpool didn’t really get going all afternoon in the capital and it’s hard to argue against any of Silva’s comments.

Many of Klopp’s star men were off the pace for most of the game and it was only for Darwin Nunez’s introduction early in the second half that saw the Merseysiders begin creating chances.

The Uruguayan scored one and assisted another to ensure that his new side avoided a shock defeat against last season’s Championship winners.

The Anfield outfit will need to be much better when they host Crystal Palace next Monday if we’re to pick up our first three points of the season.

Marco Silva provided some dire injury news following a pre-season clash with Villarreal, noting that ‘it doesn’t look good’ for former Liverpool star Harry Wilson and Nathaniel Chalobah ahead of the upcoming league opener with Jurgen Klopp’s men.

Joe Bryan, who featured 15 times for the Championship winners in England’s second division last term, was also missing from the tie in question, casting doubt over his availability for the weekend.

“Harry Wilson and Nathaniel Chalobah are both injured. We’re waiting on the medical staff but it doesn’t look good,” the Cottagers’ boss admitted post-match in comments relayed by liverpoolfc.com. “Harry’s injury is in his knee but we’ll wait for the medical staff.”

On the Merseysiders’ end, there’s good news for Alisson Becker who looks primed to take back his No.1 spot from third-choice Adrian, though it will be at least several weeks until Diogo Jota returns to the squad.

Injury updates coupled with Silva’s admission that his side aren’t quite prepared for a return to the Premier League will no doubt have Fulham fans tense ahead of the start of the 2022/23 season.

Add on top the departure of key man Fabio Carvalho and one could understand supporters feeling somewhat pessimistic, though we’ve no doubt Jurgen Klopp will still be telling his players to expect a tough welcome in London regardless.

Marco Silva has claimed that his Fulham squad are not ready to compete in the Premier League at the moment.

The Championship winners welcome Liverpool to Craven Cottage on Saturday and will be keen to cause a huge upset by taking points from last season’s Carabao Cup and FA Cup winners.

But former Everton boss Silva has admitted that the West London outfit aren’t yet ready to face Jurgen Klopp’s side but has praised his players for their efforts during pre-season.

“No,” Silva told West London Sport (via the Liverpool Echo), when asked if Fulham are ready for the new season. “These players, they are ready for the Premier League.

“The players that we have right now, I congratulate them for the work they have been doing.

“We, as a squad, we are not ready. These players, they are ready.

“I have to tell you, and I don’t want to speak for too much time about the situation, I want to be clear with you; now we have 16 senior players in our squad. No-one competes at this level with 16 senior players in your squad.

“I will tell you one more. No-one can prepare for one season with just two central defenders. We have two central defenders at this level.

“I can continue, and I will not stop, but I don’t want to talk more about it. I’m talking because you ask me.

“I’m really happy with this group of players that we have. But everyone that understands football can see we need at least five or six more players.

“That is clear, if you really want to be competitive. These players need help to be competitive in the training sessions every single day.

“We cannot be five weeks into the pre-season with two central defenders. We can’t be competitive in this situation and I can talk more positions as well but this will not help at all.”

READ MORE: ‘The boys look good’ – Jurgen Klopp looks ahead to Liverpool’s Premier League opener with Fulham

You have to admire Silva’s honesty, but the comments are rather bemusing and you wouldn’t be very impressed if you were a Fulham supporter.

It’s appears as if it may be some sort of message to the owners for more transfers from the 45-year-old who clearly feels that he doesn’t have enough talent or depth at his disposal to enjoy a successful campaign at the club.

The side from the capital have already added four new faces to their squad this summer, with Kevin Mbabu, Joao Palhinha, Andreas Pereira and Manor Solomon joining the club.

One of their best players last season was Fabio Carvalho but they lost the talented youngster to Liverpool earlier this summer and he could make his Premier League debut for the Reds on Saturday.

Klopp may view Silva’s comments as mind games and will therefore not read into what’s been said too much – we just need to ensure we play our own game to ensure we get our campaign off to the best possible start.

Liverpool’s recruitment team has developed a reputation for sourcing the right talent for Jurgen Klopp’s system both tactically and in terms of a potential target’s character.

Fabio Carvalho’s admission that his former boss, Marco Silva, plays a similar style of football to the German’s brand at Anfield will no doubt not only be known to Julian Ward and Co. but also celebrated by decision-makers at L4.

“Yeah, because Marco Silva, the way he plays football and made us play football, is more like attacking football and getting goals, which is similar to how Liverpool play, which is to score goals and dominate games,” the teenager told the club’s official website. “That’s what I’m here to do, to be able to help the team with my assists, creativity and goals. I’m looking forward to it.”

Looking back to the acquisition of Luis Diaz in winter, one can certainly see the appeal of attracting signings from sides that bear similarities to the Merseysiders.

The Colombian international proved to be a roaring success from the off; a transition that may have proved somewhat tougher had Sergio Conceicao’s men favoured a more unique tactical setup.

As such, it should fill fans with hope that Carvalho will be capable of adapting to life with us reasonably quickly as we prepare for what could very well be another trophy-laden season.

Where the former Fulham man will fit in with Klopp’s ongoing project remains to be seen, though the addition of Darwin Nunez from Benfica may provide another hint at a significant tactical tweak from the former Borussia Dortmund tactician this term.

Perhaps the youngster’s destiny lies in the No.10 role behind Darwin Nunez or down the left-flank where he previously enjoyed some success in the Championship.

Marco Silva has confirmed that Liverpool-bound Fabio Carvalho will not be playing for Fulham next season.

The former Hull, Watford and Everton boss claimed that the youngster ‘has a brilliant career’ ahead of him and didn’t attempt to hide his disappointment at the fact the Lisbon-born talent is leaving Craven Cottage.

“I think he (Carvalho) has a brilliant career in front of him. He is a top top talent in my opinion,” the former Everton boss said (via The Mirror).

“Unfortunately for me, I probably arrived a little bit late in this football club. With more time, he would have renewed his contract before. Definitely. It was a tough moment for us that we couldn’t renew the contract before. And of course when a player that age starts to play the way he played week in, week out, doing very good performances every single match.

“There were many clubs around him, a lot of rumours around him, and (it) was really tough for us to renew his contract. It is not not normal for a boy of 19 years old, from the first two months of the season, (to have) a lot of rumours around him from clubs around Europe.

“He never lost the focus, he let other people take care of it, and he really helped our football club to get promotion, to be champions. For a boy of 19 it is a fantastic sign and I believe that he has all the qualities to perform at a high level and to keep improving.

“Unfortunately he will not be in our shirt next season but I wish all the best for him.”

We were of course close to signing the 19-year-old in January but the relevant paperwork wasn’t completed in time, but it’s now believed that all the groundwork has been done to ensure the attacking midfielder will be at Anfield next season.

He contributed 11 goals and eight assists for Fulham this season as they lifted the Championship title and returned to the top-flight once again.

Jurgen Klopp is not afraid to hand chances to our younger players and at the beginning of the season, ex-Fulham star Harvey Elliott looked set for a starring role in our midfield this season.

A nasty ankle injury kept the 19-year-old sidelined for a significant amount of time earlier this campaign and he hasn’t featured as much as he would’ve liked since, but Anfield is certainly a great place for players to develop and gain vital experience.

As Silva has highlighted, there were a number of clubs sniffing around Carvalho so for us to have reportedly secured his signature is a major coup.

We can’t wait to see what he can contribute in a Red shirt in the coming seasons.

Neco Williams has enjoyed a successful spell on loan at Fulham and has helped the London outfit achieve promotion back to the Premier League.

The Wales international has made 14 appearances for the Craven Cottage side since making the temporary switch in January and has registered two goals and two assists for the club during that time.

The Whites defeated Preston North End 3-0 during the week and the three points ensured that Fulham will be back playing top-flight football next season.

In a post on his Instagram account, Williams said: “Promotion secured back to the @premierleague 🙌🏻 love it lads💪🏼 @fulhamfc.”

The 21-year-old will have gained vital experience playing regularly in the second tier and it’ll now be interesting to see the plans that Jurgen Klopp has for the No. 67 when he returns to his parent club at the end of the season.

Ex-Everton and current Fulham boss Marco Silva recently admitted his admiration for the full-back, saying:

“His intensity and the way he supported our offensive game has been fantastic. He is a young lad who always gives his best,” he said (via Liverpool’s official website).

“I am pleased with the way he has adapted at our football club.”

Williams certainly has the ability to succeed in the Premier League, but we’re not sure whether that will necessarily be at Liverpool.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is the man he’s competing with for a regular starting spot at Anfield meaning his chances will be seriously limited if our No. 66 can continue his world-class performances.

He signed a long term contract with the club back in 2020, though, which suggests that he is a part of Klopp’s plans.

The main reason Liverpool wanted to avoid Fabio Carvalho’s contract running to a close, was so that no other team could take him this summer.

It may not just be other new clubs that we need to worry about, as Fulham manager Marco Silva has confirmed (via Fabrizio Romano): “I can’t lie to you, we have been trying to renew his contract and it has been really difficult for us”.

The Italian journalist still seems convinced that Jurgen Klopp will get his man though, also re-confirming that: ‘Carvalho will be announced as new Liverpool signing in May‘.

It doesn’t seem to bother the man who ‘confirmed’ we would sign the Portuguese attacker but, even if the message from the former Everton manager is that negotiations aren’t going well, this still shows the Championship club are trying to keep their player.

Without a signed contract between the 19-year-old and the Reds, anyone can swoop in and if it’s the Cottagers – we can do little to stop the conversations happening.

We’ll try to remain as positive as the ‘transfer guru’ but this doesn’t seem like an overtly positive update on proceedings.

The possibility of Fabio Carvalho making a permanent switch to Liverpool at the end of the season remains up in the air, with various reports contradicting on the subject.

Fulham manager, Marco Silva, had little to share on the matter in question, suggesting that the timing of the deal and various details were ‘complicated’ on January’s transfer deadline day.

Though the loan arrangement aspect of the potential transfer couldn’t quite get thrashed out with the limited time remaining beyond the initial agreement on a fee, we’d expect the progress made between the two sides in talks to be an encouraging sign for our chances of completing a move for the summer.

Marco Silva has predicted that Liverpool-linked Fabio Carvalho’s agent will have been engaging in conversations with ‘big clubs’ over the future of his client.

The manager suggested that Fulham were looking to keep the youngster in London for the foreseeable future, though any interest expressed from a giant similar to the size of the Merseysiders will undoubtedly be hard to resist for the player and his entourage.

“I know his agent will have been talking to some other big clubs,” the former Everton boss told West London Sport (via the Echo).

“But we are expecting something from Fabio and his agent – they know what they said to us.

“For me as a manager, our board are trying to take control of the situation, but I am waiting for Fabio to come and speak with me because his agent will speak to the club.

“Fabio knows what he said to me, and I expect to have an answer from him.”

Though his season was upset in part by COVID-19, there’s no question that the teenager remains a highly-rated talent in England and one several Premier League outfits will be keeping tabs on.

Considering Harvey Elliott’s rise up the ranks in Merseyside, of course, there’s an argument to be had for handing the 18-year-old as many chances as possible to grow within Jurgen Klopp’s set-up.

With the likes of Tyler Morton and Curtis Jones also expected to have bright futures at Anfield, the future of our midfield trio certainly looks exciting.

That being said, we’re not a club to ignore quality talent when we see it, and with the futures of James Milner and Naby Keita up in the air (for different reasons), potential additions to the midfield department are more than likely to be actively considered.
