There were no words needed to describe Trent Alexander-Arnold’s decisive contribution in Liverpool’s thrilling 4-3 win over Fulham on Sunday – at least if you’re Jude Bellingham.

The Reds’ number 66 capped a remarkable 80-second comeback with the winning goal in the closing stages at Anfield yesterday, just eight days after his late equaliser to earn his side a point away to Manchester City.

The 25-year-old took to Instagram afterwards to share photos of him celebrating his 88th-minute strike, along with the caption ‘Scenes’ and a face exhaling emoji hinting at relief to have come through a rollercoaster match victorious.

Trent’s England teammate Bellingham was among the plethora of people leaving comments in reply to the post, and the Real Madrid star simply shared the same emoji that Liverpool’s match-winner had included.

The 20-year-old is no stranger to responding to the Scouser’s Instagram activity, having also done so following the aforementioned draw at the Etihad Stadium recently.

The face that they both used the same emoji shows that the international colleagues are on the same wavelength as each other and brings to mind the expression ‘great minds think alike’!

Jude Bellingham was among the multitude of people taking to Instagram to praise one Liverpool maestro following the 1-1 draw at Manchester City on Saturday.

The Reds salvaged a late point thanks to a Trent Alexander-Arnold equaliser, and the 25-year-old posted an image on the social media platform of his much-discussed ‘shush’ celebration at the Etihad Stadium.

He eschewed the use of a caption to go along with the photo, but plenty of his teammates at club and international level flooded the comments section with glowing praise.

England midfielder Bellingham was one of those, commending Liverpool’s number 66 with a simple two-word exclamation of ‘My boy’, accompanied by a salute emoji.

Some critics have tried to tarnish Trent’s display against Man City by pointing to him being dribbled past seven times, but there were plenty of positives from the 25-year-old even aside from his brilliantly taken goal.

As per Sofascore, he won five duels and three tackles, completed 76% of his passes, four long balls and two dribbles, and made two clearances and two interceptions.

Bellingham has been one of the most in-form players in world football since the start of the season, so for him to laud the Scouser for his performance at the Etihad is quite telling.

Trent will surely be appreciative of the praise from the Real Madrid star, and long may he continue to impress in the famous red shirt.

It’s quite the compliment to have Leo Messi rank you as the most impressive player in world football under the age of 21.

The Argentine’s votes for the Kopa Trophy would certainly suggest as much for Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala, with the German placed above Barcelona’s Pedri and Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham.

It’s particularly interesting for Liverpool fans given the ongoing links between the Reds and the 20-year-old attacking midfielder.

Could Liverpool move for Musiala?

Christian Falk has already confirmed that we remain ‘very interested’ in the former Chelsea product, though, as one might rightly imagine, he’s sure to cost a pretty penny.

A current impasse over his contract situation has creaked open the door slightly for interested clubs to throw their hat into the ring,

Should Fichajes’ (via CaughtOffside) claim of a £86.7m asking price having been set be on the money, it’s difficult to imagine the trail of potential suitors being miles long.

For our part, we’re no strangers to committing big money to players our recruitment team are utterly convinced by. That said, it will ultimately depend a great deal on whether the player is considered a genuine Mo Salah successor – not to mention whether the Egyptian King opts to extend his stay at Anfield beyond the summer of 2024.

Danny Murphy has highly praised Dominik Szoboszlai and believes that the Liverpool midfielder would be receiving greater appreciation on a wider scale were it not for Jude Bellingham.

The Hungary playmaker has been an instant hit at Anfield since his summer move from RB Leipzig, scoring a couple of sublime goals and dominating matches with his irrepressible quality.

It could easily have been the England international doing that on Merseyside instead, with the Reds having been linked with the 20-year-old for months before he eventually moved to Real Madrid in June.

Bellingham has made a seismic impact at the Bernabeu already, netting 13 times in as many matches, including both of his team’s goals in their come-from-behind El Clasico triumph last weekend (Transfermarkt).

Speaking to Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE, Murphy claimed that Szoboszlai’s brilliance would be given wider attention only for the Englishman’s incredible form in LaLiga.

The former Reds midfielder said: “I’ve just got to say on Liverpool, I’ve actually been surprised how quickly some of them have adapted. I saw the game at the weekend. Szoboszlai, if it wasn’t for Jude Bellingham doing what he’s doing, I think we’d be talking a bit more about Szoboszlai.

“I’m saying that he has hit the ground running, looking so good, and people are recognising him, but because Bellingham has gone to another planet, everything’s about Bellingham.

“I know he’s in a different league, but we talk about Bellingham a lot. Szoboszlai has come in and he’s got it all. He’s a threat, he’s got good feet, he defends well.”

To be fair, Bellingham’s form in Spain has been so exceptional that it’d be wrong not to acknowledge it, but we’ll gladly take Szoboszlai given how magnificent he’s played so far for Liverpool.

If anything, it might be advantageous that he’s going a little under the radar, as it keeps the microscope focused elsewhere and allows him to simply get along with what he’s been doing!

Liverpool have undoubtedly managed to impress with their summer business despite the considerable disappointment of missing out on generational midfield talent Jude Bellingham.

The Merseysiders were tipped for months to be a leading force in the pursuit of the England international come the opening of the summer window, only for the club to withdraw their interest when push came to shove.

With Gary Lineker gushing over the former Borussia Dortmund player, amid some terrific performances for club and country, you could understand some fans still feeling like the Reds missed a trick in the market.

“I think Bellingham is in a great starting place. Obviously Harry Kane is the captain and he’s been brilliant at leading the team, but Jude is a natural leader isn’t he?” the BBC MOTD pundit spoke on The Rest is Football podcast (via Birmingham Live).

“He’s not only blessed with incredible ability and remarkable maturity for a man so young, he’s still only 20.

“He’s bossing things at Real Madrid, you can see him bossing things with England as well. He is the sort of play you can envisage leading England through an awfully long time.”

It’s worth hammering home that there can be absolutely no regrets over the decision to land Dominik Szoboszlai as our next No.8 – already the Hungarian skipper has proven his worth in a shirt that carries a great deal of expectation.

The manner in which the 22-year-old has settled into life in Merseyside along with Alexis Mac Allister and, certainly, Ryan Gravenberch, it could now be argued, certainly indicates that we’ve not been left shortchanged by the remaining options left in the market.

That said, with Bellingham looking set to be a key part of the national setup and the furniture at Real Madrid for at least the next decade, we can’t help but wonder what might have been had our finances been flexible enough to allow us to get our elbows out in the summer alongside Los Blancos.

We’ll now never know, though we’ve already been given more than enough in the way of reason to throw our full support behind our new signings and a rather exciting, new-look midfield.

With two of Liverpool’s key decision-makers in Jurgen Klopp and Jorg Schmadtke boasting extensive experience in the Bundesliga, it was only inevitable that their eyes would latch onto the talent available in Germany.

It seems Liverpool could be set to expand their squad further courtesy of the German top-flight, with Christian Falk reporting the Reds’ significant interest in Bayern ace Jamal Musiala.

“Liverpool’s German coach, Jürgen Klopp, and sports director, Jörg Schmadtke, are once again eyeing the Bundesliga – and could really annoy FC Bayern over three personalities!” the BILD reporter wrote for CaughtOffside in his exclusive Fact Files column.

“The most important: Liverpool are very interested in Jamal Musiala.

“After Jude Bellingham, the Reds don’t want to miss out on the next talent from the Bundesliga originally trained in England.”

The Bavarian giants have been relatively frequently engaged with the Anfield-based outfit in recent years, with Sadio Mane, Thiago Alcantara and Ryan Gravenberch all trading places.

Whether the Bundesliga-holders would tolerate the departure of yet another top-rated talent in such quick succession, however, is another matter entirely.

The motivation on our own end, of course, seems very clear: avoid a repeat of the Jude Bellingham situation that saw Real Madrid win his signature virtually uncontested after we pulled out for financial reasons.

Assuming that the player’s demands aren’t entirely unreasonable, we’re certain you’d find many a Liverpool fan willing to forgive and forget the loss of England’s generational talent should we go ahead and secure Germany’s next great shining light.

Repeat or improve his feat of 16 goals and 16 assists registered last term and one might dare say Musiala will have his fair share of potential suitors to choose from next summer.

Fabrizio Romano has described one reported Liverpool transfer target as a ‘generational talent’ and compared him to a certain Jude Bellingham.

According to German outlet SportBILD, the Reds are among several ‘top clubs’ from England who have Jamal Musiala ‘on their list’, with some claims that the 20-year-old is unhappy at Bayern Munich.

In his latest Daily Briefing for CaughtOffside, the Italian explained that the midfielder’s contract talks are on hold, although this is a result of changes in the boardroom at the Allianz Arena.

Romano said that it’s not just LFC who have eyes on the Germany international, who he believes would command a nine-figure transfer fee, saying: “Liverpool have been linked with Musiala, but trust me it would not just be Liverpool, there are many important clubs around Europe keeping an eye on Musiala.

“Jurgen Klopp knows the player’s talent very well, but also people at Chelsea, Manchester City, and clubs in Spain, because he’s one of the best young talents in world football. So this is normal, it’s not about negotiating, it’s just about following a top young player.

“In my personal opinion, he’s worth more than €100m; I’d compare him to Jude Bellingham – a generational talent. So of course Bayern absolutely plan to extend Musiala’s contract with an important proposal, and they will try also with Leroy Sane and Alphonso Davies. It’s complicated, but still on.”

While Bellingham is the overwhelming favourite to win the Golden Boy award this year – underlining his case yet again with another scintillating display for England last night – Musiala has been deemed ‘best of the rest’ among the other nominees (GOAL).

The German is an explosive dribbler who’s also very tidy in possession, ranking among the top 2% of attacking midfielders in Europe’s five main leagues over the past year for successful take-ons per game (3.9) and pass completion (85.9%), as per FBref.

He doesn’t shirk his responsibilities off the ball, either, featuring among the top 14% of positional peers in Europe for interceptions per match (0.8) and the top 16% for blocks per game (1.41).

Having already played 133 times for Bayern and won 24 Germany caps with four months still remaining until his 21st birthday (Transfermarkt), Musiala has acquired a ton of high-level experience for a player of such youth, and he appears to have an extraordinarily high ceiling.

Liverpool would surely have to fend off some intense competition if they are to lure him to Anfield, having coveted Bellingham for ages but eventually giving Real Madrid a clear run at the outstanding Englishman.

That one carries a strong sense of ‘one that got away’ when looking at the ex-Borussia Dortmund midfielder’s performances in 2023, but maybe things will be different with the Bundesliga’s latest ‘generational talent’.

Jude Bellingham. What could have been!

The now Real Madrid midfielder was spotted enjoying a light spot of banter with fellow England national Trent Alexander-Arnold ahead of the Three Lions’ clash with Australia.

It’s nice to see the pair continuing to get along despite Liverpool failing to land the former Dortmund star’s signature this summer.

Still, we can’t complain too much after completing a remarkable midfield rebuild which saw the likes of Dominik Szoboszlai and World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister join for under £100m in the same window.

Jude Bellingham joined the vast chorus of online acclaim for Dominik Szoboszlai after the Liverpool midfielder’s outrageous goal in Wednesday night’s win over Leicester.

The Carabao Cup tie at Anfield was immortalised by the Hungarian’s thunderbolt from outside the penalty area to put the Reds in front during the second half.

The 22-year-old shared his glee on Instagram after the match as he posted an image of him celebrating his wonder striker, along with the caption ‘B A N G !’, with all four letters and the exclamation mark spaced out for emphasis.

In addition to the array of comments from Liverpool fans and players, Fabrizio Romano and Chelsea striker Christopher Nkunku also heaped praise on Szoboszlai, as did Bellingham.

The Real Madrid and England midfielder commented ‘Szoboooo’ and added a rocket emoji in showing his appreciation for the memorable goal.

In a parallel universe, it could very easily have been Bellingham rather than Szoboszlai wearing the number 8 shirt at Liverpool this season and smashing in goals in front of the Kop to the delirium of the home supporters.

Had the Reds been successful in their reported pursuit of the 20-year-old, who ultimately joined Real Madrid in the summer in a transfer which could potentially amount to £115m after add-ons, the Anfield hierarchy mightn’t have pushed the boat out with the £60m which was spent on the Hungarian.

The Englishman has enjoyed a sensational start to life at the Bernabeu with six goals in his first seven games, three times as many as the 22-year-old has plundered in eight matches for LFC (Transfermarkt).

However, considering just how outstanding Szoboszlai’s early performances have been at Liverpool, we don’t need to have any regrets about missing out on Bellingham, whose praise for the Hungary captain’s goal says it all about just how special a moment it was.

According to reports from Germany, Liverpool could just have been handed a potential boost to their hopes of signing a transfer target who’s wowed a certain Jude Bellingham.

Bild have claimed that Borussia Dortmund are open to selling Youssoufa Moukoko for ‘a decent transfer fee’, with the Reds among a cluster of clubs believed to be targeting the 18-year-old.

Real Madrid are also among his admirers, with his former BVB teammate Bellingham reported to have ‘spoken out in favour of’ his current club making a move for the German teenager.

Moukoko made history at last year’s World Cup when he became the youngest-ever player to represent Germany at the finals, featuring against Japan just three days after his 18th birthday (Kicker).

He doesn’t turn 19 until next November but has already surpassed 75 appearances for Dortmund, although each of his five outings so far this term have come as a substitute (Transfermarkt).

After scoring his first goal in senior football just before Christmas 2020 against Union Berlin, when he had just turned 16, opposing captain Christopher Trimmel hailed the teenager as ‘something very special’ (BVB Buzz).

Moukoko has already achieved plenty in his career for such a young player, and his club’s reported openness to selling him could play into Liverpool’s hands if the Anfield hierarchy wish to take advantage.

Of course, the German international would have some fierce competition for places in Jurgen Klopp’s squad, with Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo already alternating at centre-forward, but it’ll be intriguing to see if the Reds can avenge missing out on Bellingham by bringing his former teammate to Merseyside.

The Jude Bellingham to Liverpool boat sailed this summer without much of a fight, as decision-makers at Anfield veered their financial firepower away from the Signal Iduna Park in favour of more affordable targets, despite Jurgen Klopp’s well-reported admiration.

Given how well both Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister have taken to life in Merseyside, you’d be extremely hard-pressed to argue the Reds were ill-advised to take such an approach.

Though the Englishman is now playing for another top outfit with European pedigree (14 Champions Leagues’ worth of pedigree, to be precise), Jamie Carragher suggested that the ‘special’ player could still end up at L4 some point down the line if he were to set his sights on a Premier League move.

“There is still time [for him to move to England]. He isn’t going to stay there his whole career,” the CBS Sports pundit was quoted as saying by HITC.

“It’s probably hard to leave Madrid, if I am totally honest.

“But, at some stage, if he’s the best player in England and one of England’s greatest ever players, which I think he will become, then I think he will want to sample the Premier League. And where better than Liverpool, the six-time Champions League winners?”

At 20 years of age, however, one might argue that Bellingham will want to sample life in Madrid for more than just a handful of years.

At which point, the question arises as to whether Liverpool will still be as attractive an outfit as it is now under Klopp were the midfielder to seek pastures new, say, five or more years down the line when our German tactician may have called time on his own career in English football.

There are a lot of variables up in the air that we’ll have to keep a close eye on as the seasons play out, though we’d be mightily surprised to see Real Madrid’s blockbuster star part ways with the club anytime soon.

It’s a nice dream, but let’s also not lose sight of what we’re building currently with our talented batch of players, some of whom possess their own frankly ludicrous ceilings.

It wasn’t a very well concealed secret that Liverpool were interested in signing Jude Bellingham this summer but the move never came to fruition, with Jurgen Klopp’s recent actions certainly causing intrigue.

Whilst he was sat at the desk for his press conference ahead of our Europa League opener against LASK, Real Madrid scored an injury time winner and our manager watched on as he discovered who it was.

As he uttered the word “Bellingham”, the huge smile that crossed the German’s face showed a little bit of envy that we missed out on the former Borussia Dortmund man.

We’ve done pretty well with our midfield alternatives though and let’s hope that the likes of Dominik Szoboszlai can go on to achieve as much as Anfield as the England international looks like he will in Spain.

Liverpool missed out on the opportunity to land generational talent Jude Bellingham this summer, but the Englishman could still have a part to play in the Reds’ future transfer business.

TEAMTALK have relayed some interesting comments from one of the Real Madrid man’s teammates, Federico Valverde, hinting that the player wouldn’t be completely opposed to a Premier League switch, should circumstances necessitate a potential exit from the Spanish capital.

“Premier League offers? I have the possibility of playing for Real,” Valverde was quoted as saying in a separate interview. “The day I don’t feel like that, I will probably look for another solution or Real itself will look for one for me.”

Whilst a drop in minutes over the course of the season – as a direct result of the former Borussia Dortmund man’s arrival in Madrid – would certainly raise a few eyebrows at recruitment teams across Europe, there doesn’t appear to be a clear sign just yet that such an eventuality will come to pass.

The former Penarol star (the same outfit that helped develop Darwin Nunez) has only missed 83 minutes of action from a possible 450, starting in all but one clash.

Bellingham or no, Liverpool are unlikely to sign Valverde

Liverpool would, were finances and opportunity to sweetly align, make an exception to their general rule of not pursuing players over the age of 25 (Valverde will turn 26 next summer) if the Uruguayan were to be made available on the market.

With a contract that isn’t set to expire until 2027, and Real Madrid sure to set an asking price that reflects the player’s status as one of the top midfielders on the planet, it’s more than likely he’ll be out of our price range.

That won’t necessarily be a disaster given the quality we’ve recruited in 2023, not to mention the likely pressing need to invest in the backline.

It’s nice to imagine Valverde, a footballer ex-teammate Casemiro once credited with doing a ‘phenomenal job’ at the La Liga giants (Daily Mail), linking up with his international teammate on Merseyside but, if we’re realistic, it seems the stars won’t align on this one!

One Liverpool player ended up on the receiving end of criticism over a costly mistake on international duty on Tuesday night.

During Scotland’s 1-3 defeat against England at Hampden Park, Andy Robertson’s attempt to clear his lines went badly awry as he succeeded only in giving the ball straight to Jude Bellingham, who gratefully accepted the gift to put the visitors 2-0 ahead in the first half.

Willie Miller was on punditry duty for BBC Sportsound and he didn’t mince his words when it came to what he thought of the left-back’s unfortunate moment.

The ex-Scotland defender said: “Robertson knows he’s made an error. He’s got the ball under control. I don’t know what’s going through his mind as he passes it to Bellingham. He’s just froze and set it up so easily.”

It was indeed a major faux pas for a player of Robertson’s quality and experience, albeit an uncharacteristic one from the Liverpool full-back.

Luckily, it came in a friendly clash and not a competitive game where qualification for a major tournament could’ve been on the line, and his Scotland side are very well placed to secure their passage to the finals of Euro 2024 next summer.

The 29-year-old’s error might’ve had Reds fans alarmed, but at least it didn’t happen to him for his club in a crucial fixture – and hopefully it never will.

Robertson will naturally be disappointed on a personal level by inadvertently setting up Bellingham’s goal last night, but the Liverpool man will quickly put it behind him and switch his focus to continuing our strong start to the season when we visit Wolves on Saturday.

A commanding performance at Molineux would be the best way to get the mistake in Glasgow out of his system.
