Liverpool’s players and coaching staff barely had time to digest the 4-3 win over Fulham on Sunday before thoughts turned to their next assignment.

The first midweek round of Premier League fixtures in 2023/24, on which you can place a bet with https://casinosnotongamstop.net, sees the Reds travel to face Sheffield United on Wednesday night, with an even quicker turnaround for the visit to Crystal Palace on Saturday lunchtime.

The compact scheduling, which’ll see Jurgen Klopp’s side make trips to Yorkshire and south London in the space of 72 hours, will surely see the manager ring the changes to his starting XI from one game to the next in order to utilise the depth of his squad and keep players fresh.

Liverpool starting XI v Fulham

Firstly, a quick reminder of the starting XI that Klopp selected for the 4-3 win over Fulham on Sunday. One man who we definitely know won’t be playing at Bramall Lane or Selhurst Park is Joel Matip, who hobbled out of yesterday’s clash and will be out injured for the foreseeable future.

Liverpool predicted XI v Sheffield United

Injuries to the likes of Andy Robertson, Matip, Thiago Alcantara and Diogo Jota have lessened Klopp’s options when it comes to squad rotation, so there mightn’t be as much of an overhaul for the Wednesday night trip to Sheffield United.

Ibrahima Konate is likely to start at centre-back in place of the stricken Cameroonian, while Wataru Endo could come into the side following his goalscoring heroics on Sunday. Curtis Jones and Cody Gakpo are also possible starters, having both begun on the bench against Fulham.

Liverpool predicted XI v Crystal Palace

The rapid turnaround to Palace on Saturday could see a few more changes in personnel, especially for those who start the two preceding games.

We expect to see Joe Gomez come into the side either on the right or in the centre of defence, while Jarell Quansah might also be called upon to start if Klopp is wary of handing Konate two starts in four days.

Alexis Mac Allister should come back in if he’s rested against the Blades, while Harvey Elliott could also be given an overdue start. Dominik Szoboszlai might be held in reserve, with the Hungarian having not scored for Liverpool since the end of September.

One personnel change in attack could see Gakpo moved to the left to accommodate the return of Darwin Nunez, with Luis Diaz given a breather.

Perhaps the most interesting alteration seen above is the possibility of Trent starting in midfield outright, rather than being tasked with the hybrid role that he’s played for much of 2023.

Christmas is just around the corner, and many Liverpool fans could have EA Sports FC 24 on their lists for the presents to be opened on 25th December.

If you haven’t already got your hands on this ubiquitous computer game and can’t wait to buy FC 24 coins, here are some tips to help sharpen your play when taking control of Jurgen Klopp’s Reds on your screen.

ICYMI: Further advice on playing as Liverpool on EA Sports FC 24

Beat the high line with a through ball out wide

In the likes of Mo Salah and Luis Diaz, Liverpool have the wide attackers to cause plenty of damage when they get the ball on the flanks.

If you find yourself in a scenario where you’re breaking quickly in the opposition, or can exploit their use of a high line, you can adapt a tactic that Klopp’s side frequently use in real life.

If the opportunity presents itself, unleash a through ball or a tap of the R1/RB button to slip the ball between the full-back and centre-back. This will give Salah or Diaz the perfect angle to run onto the ball and work their magic in the final third.

Vary the crosses

How often have we seen Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson whipping dangerous crosses into the opposition penalty area to feed Liverpool’s forward line to find the net?

It’s something you’ll likely want to exploit in EA Sports FC 24, but don’t be afraid to mix it up a bit either!

If you find yourself in a crossing position with either of the Reds’ lethal full-backs, try using the R1/RB button to ping in a low, hard delivery, especially if the opposition have a towering centre-back or two.

Those kind of crosses can often be very difficult to defend against and, considering the forward Liverpool can boast, a pinpoint cross can easily lead to the ball nestling in the back of the net!

Use the right finish for the right scenario

Why do strikers like Salah score so regularly? It’s down to ability but also owes a lot to in-game intelligence.

The best forwards know the right type of finish to use in any given situation. If you’re through on goal and the ‘keeper is rushing out to try and narrow the angle, a tap of L1/LB to dink it over him – or holding R1/RB and L1/LB to drill it either side of him – should see you adding to the scoreboard.

If you’re at an angle with a clear sight of goal, a deft turn inside with R1/RB or L1/LB can leave you in the perfect position to bend the ball past the goalkeeper with the attacker’s preferred foot.

Master these techniques and the goals will flow in no time!

As the football season continues, Liverpool are at a critical point, and the changing betting odds show this.

The odds offer the team’s chances and give fans and analysts insight into the Reds’ standing. We need to understand these odds to determine the title hopes for Jurgen Klopp’s side, with important matches coming up.

Liverpool’s Premier League improvement

Liverpool’s campaign in the Premier League this season has been a marked improvement on this time last year, when they were languishing well behind the Champions League places and nowhere near title contention.

There have been brilliant performances this term, such as the emphatic home wins over Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest and Brentford, but the football betting odds change a lot because of the inconsistency in their form which has seem them go without an away win in the top flight since mid-September.

Navigating the Europa League: Assessing Liverpool’s Chances

Liverpool have to make do with Europa League football this season, but the betting odds show confidence in their abilities. The odds show that they are among the leading contenders to win the tournament outright in Dublin next May.

Injury Concerns and Squad Depth

Injuries are a big reason why Liverpool’s betting odds are affected. The team have been hit by injuries, with Alisson Becker the latest to pull up.

Key players have been sidelined at crucial moments, forcing Klopp to adapt his tactics and line-ups constantly. Getting players back and avoiding more injuries will be critical in the next few months.

Tactical Evolution Under Klopp

Klopp has always been known for his tactical flexibility and ability to get the best out of his squad. This season, more than ever, his strategic choices will be under the microscope after a considerable summer overhaul and last term’s struggles.

Youth Players Stepping Up

One silver lining among all the injuries has been the emergence of young talents from Liverpool’s academy, with Jarell Quansah and Ben Doak having shown that they can step up when needed. They give Klopp more options and make Liverpool’s game less predictable, with opposition managers not yet knowing what to expect from such youngsters.

The Anfield Edge: Liverpool’s Home Advantage

The atmosphere at Anfield is electrifying because of its passionate crowd. It is a significant asset for Liverpool, who’ve won all nine of their home matches so far this season. The famous stadium is more than just a home ground. It acts like an extra player, a ’12th man’ as such.

While sometimes overlooked in betting odds, this unique advantage has repeatedly proven to be a game-changer, turning the tide in Liverpool’s favour during crucial moments of uncertainty and challenge.

Upcoming Fixtures: A Chance to Shift the Odds

In upcoming matches, Liverpool have the chance to further their title credentials and continue making progress in the Europa League and Carabao Cup. The Reds’ season could be heavily influenced by December games against rivals such as Manchester United and Arsenal. This will also affect betting odds.

Financial Aspects and Transfer Strategies

Liverpool’s transfer budget and activity also affect the betting odds. How the club handles transfers affects how well the Reds are equipped to challenge for major silverware this season.

A Season of Opportunities Amid Challenges

In conclusion, as Liverpool navigate through the highs and lows of the season, the fluctuating football betting odds serve as a narrative of their journey. The team has the potential to overcome its challenges and seize the opportunities which lie ahead.

Fans and experts will closely watch how Liverpool adapt and change throughout the season, and the odds will alter in tandem with the Reds’ fortunes.

Do we even need to talk about the popularity of Liverpool in the world? Liverpool isn’t just a football club – it is a brand with a huge fan base worldwide. The achievements this club has had in the last couple of centuries are the reason why a lot of Malaysians support the Reds. They barely wait for weekends to enjoy Premier League matches and Tuesdays/Wednesdays to support their beloved club in international competitions.

Unfortunately, there are some barriers that Malaysians need to overcome to enjoy watching their favourite football club. One of those is the time zone. There is an 8-hour difference between England and Malaysia, which can be a bit challenging, but there is another common doubt among Liverpool fans – they want to know the best ways to watch Liverpool games.

That’s something we would like to analyse here. There are some pretty cool ways to watch Liverpool games. We will let you decide which one suits you the most. So, let’s go!

Watch Liverpool Directly on a Sports Betting Site

Do you want to ensure double fun for the weekends? Well, there is a way to do that with Liverpool games! Believe it or not, some sports betting sites allow live streams of Liverpool matches. These live streams are usually late by a couple of seconds, although the best online bookmakers will ensure the best possible video quality of the stream. It may not be 4K, but it will be good enough to see all the relevant details.

At the same time, you can place a bet on the game. Live sports betting is available on all professional and legitimate betting platforms. However, you will need to dig deeper to find the best options. The first thing you must check is the license. After that, you need to explore the coverage of the betting site.

More precisely, you need to see which options you can place a bet upon in real time. Ultimately, you need to be sure that the betting site you selected won’t lock the odds on every minute. Instead, it should do that only when there are really some tough situations in front of the goal of any team.

Everything we just said will ensure that sports betting in Malaysia seems like an unbeatable experience that everyone would want to enjoy every time Liverpool plays. Don’t speed up the process; check each feature carefully and enjoy live streaming to the fullest!

Watch Liverpool on LFCTV

Have you ever heard about LFCTV? This is an official Liverpool channel which is available on Sky television, but such a service is only available in the UK and Ireland. People based overseas will need to access the channel differently. There is a club’s video-on-demand service under the name LFCTV GO. For a certain fee, which is very affordable, Malaysians can enjoy Premier League and European matches played by Liverpool.

We have to admit that LFCTV commentators really know how to make the show! Every game you watch on that platform is made more interesting and full of passion, thanks to these guys. That’s why we recommend you take this small investment into consideration!

Watch Games on TV

One of the options you have is to check out sports TV channels in Malaysia and watch Liverpool games. For example, Astro SuperSport has a contract with the Premier League where people can watch all the matches. However, there are two problems you may experience this way.

One of the issues is obvious – not all the people in Malaysia have access to these TV channels. In that case, the only way to watch games is to visit someone with access to the channel.

Another issue is a bit unpredictable. Astro SuperSport does not always offer people the opportunity to watch Liverpool games. That happens when there are other standout matches during the weekend.

You may get the chance to watch Manchester City, Arsenal or Chelsea games, but not those of your favourite club, so think twice if this is the best option from the list.

Connect with the Supporters’ Club in Malaysia

Did you know that Liverpool has supporter clubs all over the world? You can be sure that such a trend could not skip Malaysia, where millions of people are big fans of the Reds. That’s why we recommend you connect with the Liverpool Supporters Club in Kuala Lumpur. There is a small membership fee that each fan needs to cover.

All the money invested will be used to ensure the best possible atmosphere for watching Liverpool matches, including the best streams! It will be more entertaining to spend a weekend evening with people who have the same passion as you. You will probably make new friendships, hear new topics and grab a couple of beers during the match.

Check Free Streams Online

If none of the aforementioned options works for you, then you should check the free streams available online, although counting on this option can be quite risky. First and foremost, most free live streams don’t even have the right to offer such a service. That’s why they can be shut down at any moment. Apart from that, the live stream “isn’t really live”.

It is usually late for 1 or 2 minutes, which can be essential for people betting while watching Liverpool. Also, the quality of the video is usually poor. Sometimes, you won’t even manage to see where the ball is. For all the reasons we’ve already mentioned, we recommend that you focus more on the previous options instead of this one. Use it only if you can’t find a better way to watch Liverpool games in Malaysia.

Conclusion

As you see, there are multiple ways to watch Liverpool from Malaysia. In our opinion, the most interesting one is watching streams directly on sports betting sites. That way, you can place a bet in real time and enjoy the game even more.

Other options are also cool, but most of them come with certain obstacles, which may ruin your experience of watching games.

So you want to dominate with Liverpool in EA Sports FC 24, do you? We’ve got some tips to help you win the league and cup double with the mighty Reds.

First things first, you’ll want to focus on their blistering forward line. They’re nearly unstoppable on the counterattack with their speed and skill. Feed them through balls over the top, let them run at defenders, and bang – goal!

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s crosses from out wide are pinpoint, so get the ball to him whenever you can. Defensively, Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez are rocks at the back. They’ll clean up any mess; just don’t drag them out of position.

With this world-class talent at your disposal, you’ll have the rest of the league chasing shadows and the trophy cabinet filling up in no time. Now get out there and show the football world why Liverpool are champions!

Liverpool FC in EA Sports FC 24: Strengths and Weaknesses

In EA Sports FC 24, Liverpool is a solid choice for any player. Their key strengths are pace, pressing, and clinical finishing.

Pace

With speedsters like Luis Diaz, Mo Salah and Diogo Jota up front, you’ll tear through defences. Play quick one-two passes and through balls to unleash your rapid front three.

Pressing

Liverpool are known for their relentless high pressing. Use the team press tactic and swarm the opposition when they have the ball. Win it back high up the pitch and go straight for goal.

Finishing

Whether it’s Salah cutting in from the right, Diaz blazing down the left, or Jota or Darwin Nunez poaching in the box, Liverpool’s frontline knows how to score. Get the ball to your forwards in and around the area and they’ll usually bury it.

Of course, Liverpool have weaknesses too, such as a lack of aerial presence and midfield depth. But play to their strengths, bring the intensity, and you’ll be lifting trophies in no time. Now get out there and show EA Sports FC 24 what the mighty Reds are made of!

Top 5 Tactics for Success With Liverpool in EA Sports FC 24

To dominate with Liverpool in EA Sports FC 24, you’ve got to play like the Reds. Here are the top 5 tactics to help you win:

Press High

Liverpool are known for their “gegenpressing” style, aggressively pressing opponents high up the pitch. In EA Sports FC 24, use the D-Pad to select “Press After Possession Loss” and “Constant Pressure” tactics. This will have your front tgree pressuring defenders into mistakes.

Fast Build-Up

The Reds attack with speed and purpose. Choose “Fast Build Up” to move the ball quickly into the final third. Ping passes around and through the midfield, then play a through ball to your pacy wingers or centre-forward.

Cross and Inshallah

Liverpool score a lot of goals from out wide. Choose “Attacking Fullbacks” and “Wing Play” to get Andy Robertson and Alexander-Arnold bombing up the wings. Whip crosses into the box for headers and tap-ins.

The Front Three

Make players like Salah, Jota or Nunez the focal point of your attacks. Play “Possession” and “Forward Runs” to have them making runs in behind the defence. Slip passes through and unleash their pace.

Defend From The Front

While Liverpool press high, they also defend as a unit. Use “Team Press” and “Defensive Line” tactics to have your whole team shift and press together. Nick the ball off opponents high up the pitch by closing down players in possession. Win the ball back and start another wave of attack.

With these tactics, you’ll have opponents rage quitting in no time. Now go out there and make Jurgen Klopp proud!

Player Guide: Liverpool’s Key Players in EA Sports FC 24

To dominate with Liverpool in EA Sports FC 24, you’ll want to utilise their star players. Here are three of the key players to focus on:

Mohamed Salah

Liverpool’s Egyptian winger is one of the fastest players in the game. Use Salah’s pace and dribbling ability to fly down the wing and whip in crosses or cut inside to unleash rockets from his left foot. His skills and curve shots make him a constant threat in attack.

Virgil van Dijk

The big Dutch centre-back is a rock at the heart of Liverpool’s defence. Van Dijk excels in the air, winning headers from corners and free kicks. He’s also quick for his size, allowing him to keep up with speedy strikers. When in possession, use Van Dijk to pick out passes and start Liverpool’s attacks from the back.

Alisson

Liverpool’s goalkeeper provides security between the posts. Alisson’s shot stopping, reflexes and distribution help the Reds play an aggressive high defensive line. His accurate long passes frequently start quick counterattacks. Trust in Alisson’s abilities and he’ll frequently bail you out when the opposition breaks through.

By mastering Liverpool’s key players like Salah, Van Dijk and Alisson, you’ll have the firepower and defensive steel to compete with any opponent in EA Sports FC 24. Build your attacks around Salah’s pace and dribbling, control possession with Van Dijk’s passing from the back and have confidence in Alisson to make saves when you need them. With talent like this, you’ll be well on your way to dominating with the Reds.

Liverpool are being tipped by the bookies to lift the Carabao Cup this season, with Chelsea and Newcastle close behind.

It is always tricky trying to judge whether a team will put out a weakened line-up if they are still involved in other competitions. Jurgen Klopp will certainly see the Premier League as a priority, and the opportunity for European silverware is also a good possibility with their inclusion in this season’s Europa League.

At present, Liverpool sit just three points behind Manchester City in the top flight. According to many bookies listed on this site, the Reds are currently the favourites for the Europa League and second favourites for the FA Cup.

Even with a weakened team, Liverpool are still a great shout for the Carabao Cup this term, and comparing the best prices and sign-up bonuses could help you enhance your odds or increase your stake at no extra risk.

Liverpool’s last Carabao Cup game saw them defeat Bournemouth a week ago. While the likes of Joel Matip, Cody Gakpo and Mo Salah played, there was also scope for Klopp to field Caoimhin Kelleher, Jarell Quansah and Wataru Endo before bringing on Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, Darwin Nunez, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Diogo Jota to guarantee the result.

Goals from Gakpo and Nunez saw Liverpool beat the Cherries, who put up a dogged performance and equalised through Justin Kluivert. Klopp’s negotiation of the fourth-round tie puts Liverpool in a strong position to lift the trophy, and fielding youngsters, squad players and those coming back from injury seems to have worked well so far.

While Chelsea have had a couple of seasons to forget, it’s worth noting that they lifted the Champions League as recently as 2021. Of course, there have been a lot of comings and goings since then, but the Blues still pose a threat.

Newcastle have surprised a lot of people under Eddie Howe. When the Saudi investors came in, many people thought he might be pushed aside for a bigger-name manager, but he has crafted a team which finished in fourth place last season and saw them return to the Champion’s League for the first time since 2002/03.

A draw against AC Milan and a blistering 4-1 defeat of Paris Saint-Germain is better than what a lot of people would’ve expected for Newcastle in this season’s ‘Group of Death’, although two defeats to Borussia Dortmund have left them with an uphill task to reach the last 16. Silverware will be Howe’s priority this season, and he may see the Carabao Cup as his best opportunity.

Last season’s Europa Conference League winners West Ham could also surprise a lot of people if they continue to field a strong team in the domestic up. Everton, Fulham, Middlesbrough and Port Vale are also still in the competition, with the non-Premier League duo facing each other on 19 December.

Everton meet Fulham on the same night, while Chelsea host Newcastle. Liverpool fans will have to wait until the following night before the Reds take on West Ham at Anfield.

Of those fixtures, Chelsea v Newcastle and Liverpool v West Ham look most likely to hold the eventual winners of the 2023/24 Carabao Cup.

After securing their first Premier League victory this season, Bournemouth face a challenging Carabao Cup fixture as they welcome Liverpool to the Vitality Stadium in the fourth round on Wednesday.

The Cherries sailed past Stoke City in their previous EFL Cup clash with a comfortable 2-0 win. Meanwhile, Liverpool showed their resilience by coming from behind to defeat Leicester City 3-1, a pattern seen throughout their campaign.

The journey to victory was not an easy one for Bournemouth’s under-pressure head coach Andoni Iraola, as they faced Burnley in their most recent Premier League fixture. The Clarets’ Charlie Taylor found the net with a powerful volley in the 11th minute, making it seem like it’d be another difficult day for the Cherries. However, Antoine Semenyo’s composed finish across the goal brought hope and left the basement battle finely poised.

Bournemouth goalkeeper Ionut Radu played a crucial role in keeping Burnley in check, but a long-range stunner from Philip Billing – followed by a VAR controversy surrounding Jay Rodriguez’s goal being disallowed for offside – ultimately favored Bournemouth.

This victory allowed them to escape the relegation zone and claim 17th place in the Premier League, leaving Sheffield United as the sole team without a win this season. With their run of form, Bournemouth is expected to have a low winning odds in the Top 10 Betting Sites.

Prior to this Premier League win, Iraola had masterminded Carabao Cup victories over Championship opponents Swansea City and Stoke City, reaching the fourth round for the second consecutive year. However, their journey ended at this stage last year against eventual runners-up Newcastle United.

Bournemouth had previously reached the quarter-finals in the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons, succumbing to Chelsea on both occasions. With a daunting clash against Manchester City looming in the top flight next weekend, a victory in the EFL Cup would be ideal preparation.

In a poignant moment on Sunday, Liverpool attacker Diogo Jota paid tribute to his teammate Luis Diaz after the kidnapping of his parents in their native Colombia. Liverpool faced a determined Nottingham Forest side, with Jota breaking their resistance to open the scoring. Goals from Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah sealed a convincing victory, but manager Jurgen Klopp emphasised that football took a back seat on this sombre occasion.

Liverpool are currently fourth in the Premier League thanks to their fifth consecutive home win at the weekend. In their Carabao Cup opener against Leicester City, they fell behind early but responded to claim a 3-1 victory.

Their defence of the trophy their won in 2022 was halted by Manchester City at this stage last season. However, with four wins and a draw in their last five matches, including scoring at least two goals in each game, Liverpool’s attacking prowess puts them in a strong position for this year’s EFL Cup.

Interestingly, Liverpool had to come from behind in their previous meeting with Bournemouth earlier this season, ultimately winning 3-1. However, on the Reds’ last visit to the Vitality Stadium in March, the Cherries got their revenge for a 9-0 defeat at Anfield earlier in the campaign with a solitary Philip Billing goal.

As for the team news, Bournemouth are dealing with injuries to several key players, including Tyler Adams, Emiliano Marcondes, Ryan Fredericks and Neto. Lewis Cook is serving a suspension, and Marcos Senesi is doubtful due to a muscular issue.

Liverpool will be without several players due to injuries, including Andrew Robertson, Stefan Bajcetic, Thiago Alcantara and Ben Doak. However, Curtis Jones is back from suspension, and Luke Chambers is expected to get his second senior start. Caoimhin Kelleher, Jarell Quansah and the returning Cody Gakpo are also likely to feature.

Bournemouth are expected to play without fear, but Liverpool’s in-form attackers are likely to make the difference. A 3-1 victory for the Reds is anticipated, as they have the firepower to overcome the Cherries.

In conclusion, this Carabao Cup clash promises excitement, and both teams are determined to make progress in the competition. Bournemouth’s new=found confidence and Liverpool’s attacking prowess make this fixture one to watch.

FIFPRO, the representative organisation for 66 player associations, reported that nearly half (44%) of professional footballers had experienced an increase in fatigue during 2022/23, largely due to an increased workload.

The report echoes sentiments from Manchester United’s Raphel Varane, who recently described amendments to injury time rules as ‘dangerous’ due to the number of extra minutes players would need to spend on the field.

Liverpool Doing Comparatively Well

United, who are 80/1 outsiders in the Premier League odds for the title, courtesy of repeated transfer disasters and the negative influence of the Glazers, currently have one of the longest injury lists in the top flight with seven. A bet on football with Paddy Power for the top six is no guarantee for United either.

Liverpool are doing comparatively well, with four players sidelined at the moment in Andy Robertson (shoulder), Stefan Bajčetić (lower leg), Thiago Alcantara (pelvis) and Cody Gakpo (knee). Curtis Jones is also suspended until November after being sent off for a tackle on Yves Bissouma in the defeat to Tottenham at the end of September.

Chelsea are struggling both in the league and the infirmary, with seven players sidelined, while Manchester City have just one injured player of note in Kevin De Bruyne (thigh).

While it’d be easy to state that a packed injury list is detrimental to a club’s domestic performances (especially as Sheffield United, with ten players out, have just one point from this campaign), Tottenham seem to be the exception to the rule.

Currently top of the Premier League, Spurs are stuck with eight absences, including one with no return date in Alfie Whiteman.

The Worst Records

Of course, injuries are an unfortunate reality of life in the Premier League.

Since the turn of the decade, European clubs have posted a 20% increase in injuries, as schedules get heavier with seemingly no consideration for players’ welfare.

Liverpool had one of the worst records for injuries in the league during 2022/23. The Premier Injuries website reported a tally of 36 players out, 184 games missed and 1,574 days lost to knocks and illness by the end of the campaign.

The same source notes that hamstring injuries had the biggest impact on the Premier League in 2022/23. A total of 145 hamstring problems cost clubs more than £70m. Liverpool suffered ten.

As for our current injury list, Gakpo’s knee injury is part of a grouping which resulted in losses of around £15m last season, while calf strains like Bajcetic’s were slightly more costly at £20m.

‘Nonsense’

Hamstring injuries were by far the most common concern affecting modern footballers. The British Journal of Sports Medicine reports that incidences of injured hamstrings doubled between 2001/02 and 2021/22, from 12% of all injuries to 24%.

This brings us right back to scheduling. It’s reasonable to expect things to get worse at Anfield – and elsewhere – before they get better. The Reds played 51 matches in 2022/23, including ten matches in 22 days during one period last year. We’ll also play four games in 11 days between today and 9 November.

Last season, Jurgen Klopp, Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker all made their thoughts on the matter clear but nobody – especially Alan Shearer, who called the Dutchman’s claims ‘nonsense‘ – seemed too interested in listening.

Things have to break – or snap – eventually.

The Birth Of Rivalry: From Industrial Hubs To Football Giants

The storied rivalry between Manchester United and Liverpool transcends the boundaries of a football pitch, weaving together a narrative which dates back to the late 19th century. In the midst of the Industrial Revolution, the two cities played pivotal roles in shaping the landscape of the United Kingdom.

Manchester, already a thriving industrial powerhouse by the 18th century, was home to the birth of what would become Manchester United. Established in 1878 as Newton Heath LYR Football Club, the team’s roots lay in the labour force of the local railway industry, uniting a community in their love for the beautiful game. The club faced dire financial straits in 1902, teetering on the brink of extinction until the intervention of John Henry Davies, who injected much-needed capital and instigated a renaming to the ubiquitous Manchester United.

By 1908, United had secured their first league title, setting the stage for an enduring rivalry with Liverpool, who in turn had their own unique origin story. In 1892, following a dispute between Anfield owner John Houlding and Everton directors, the newly-formed club found its home at Anfield, a stadium destined to become hallowed ground for Reds supporters.

Liverpool’s rise through the ranks was nothing short of remarkable. In the 1893/94 Second Division, they finished the season unbeaten, earning promotion to the First Division after a victorious showdown against Newton Heath. This pivotal encounter laid the foundation for future battles between the two clubs, igniting a spark which still burns.

The first official meeting of Manchester United and Liverpool took place in 1903 during an FA Cup clash, resulting in a hard-fought 2-1 victory for the former. Both clubs would steadily grow in stature, enjoying title wins during the early 1900s. However, Liverpool outshone their northern counterparts, with United enduring a lengthy championship drought from 1910/11 until 1951/52.

As we reflect on this illustrious rivalry, it’s worth noting that this fixture embodies a rich history where competition is not limited to the football pitch. Speaking of records, you might be curious to know which team has scored the most goals in English football history, a title which has sparked many debates among fans. While both Manchester United and Liverpool have their arguments, it’s undeniable that they have left their indelible marks in the annals of English football.

In more recent history, both clubs have taken turns basking in the glory of dominance. Liverpool’s resplendent era in the 1970s and 1980s brought them 11 league titles and four European Cups. Under Sir Alex Ferguson, United broke their 26-year league title drought in 1993 and went on to capture 12 more championships, including the historic treble in 1999.

As the two continue to vie for supremacy on the domestic and global stage, the appeal of both Manchester United and Liverpool transcends national borders. United, despite their post-Ferguson title drought, have shown signs of resurgence under Erik ten Hag. Liverpool, on the other hand, have been navigating a period of transition under Jurgen Klopp, after securing their first Premier League title in three decades in 2019/20.

Famous Moments in the Manchester United v Liverpool Rivalry

  1. The 1977 FA Cup Final: This match is etched in football folklore as the result which ultimately stopped Liverpool from being England’s first ‘treble’ winners, having claimed the league title and European Cup that year. Despite Jimmy Case equalising for the Merseysiders, Jimmy Greenhoff’s deflection from Lou Macari’s shot ultimately won the trophy for United.
  2. The 1992/93 Premier League: A pivotal match at Old Trafford in March 1993 left fans on the edge of their seats. Manchester United secured a pivotal 2-1 win over Liverpool, paving the way to lift their first league title in 26 years, which signalled the beginning of Sir Alex Ferguson’s reign of dominance.
  3. The 1999 FA Cup 4th Round: United’s eventual treble nearly didn’t make it past January of that year, with Liverpool leading 1-0 at Old Trafford in the 89th minute before quickfire goals from Dwight Yorke and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took the Manchester side through. They went on to win the trophy four months later.
  4. The 2013/14 Premier League: With Liverpool chasing down an overdue title triumph and United struggling badly as defending champions, the Merseysiders went to Old Trafford and won 3-0, with Steven Gerrard scoring two penalties and missing one. However, Brendan Rodgers’ side would ultimately have to settle for second behind United’s neighbours Manchester City.
  5. The 2019/20 Premier League: The rivalry took centre stage in the 2019/20 season when Liverpool ended their 30-year league title drought. They won 26 of their first 27 top-flight games, with the only blemish inflicted by their biggest rivals at Old Trafford in a 1-1 draw, and it took a late Adam Lallana equaliser to prevent Klopp’s team from losing their unbeaten status.

These five matches stand as a testament to the drama, tension and historic significance which define the Manchester United v Liverpool rivalry. Each encounter encapsulates the essence of this storied battle, leaving an indelible mark on the collective memory of football fans around the world.

As the rivalry continues to evolve through time, these clashes serve as a constant reminder of the enduring intensity and allure of this fixture. For those curious about the origins of these legendary clubs, a question often asked is ‘When was Manchester United founded?’ The history of these clubs intertwines with the rich tapestry of football, creating a legacy that spans generations.

Conclusion

In the ever-evolving tapestry of football history, the rivalry between Manchester United and Liverpool remains an enduring masterpiece. Through time, these two footballing giants have defined an age-old contest, an embodiment of passion, pride, and glory. From the industrial heartlands of England to the global stages of the 21st century, this clash of titans has captivated the world.

As we conclude our journey through their storied past, it’s clear that the rivalry between Manchester United and Liverpool is not just about the goals scored and the titles won; it’s about the enduring spirit of competition which unites and divides fans.

There is always the debate as to whether the EFL Cup is beneficial to some of the so-called ‘big teams’ in the Premier League, with the likes of Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola voicing their concerns over the busy scheduling of fixtures in previous years.

At times, we’ve seen some key players featuring in the competition, which has been somewhat of a risk for managers who would have preferred to originally rest their star men ahead of the league campaign.

Liverpool endured a frustrating Premier League campaign last term as they finished fifth in the top-flight table, which means that they’re not playing Champions League football this term. That will be of obvious frustration to the Anfield faithful, who have seen some memorable nights in that tournament over the years.

However, with their participation in this year’s Europa League already underway, the schedule still looks a packed one for Klopp’s side. It’ll be interesting to see how he manages certain players in his first-team squad heading towards the festive period, which can be an unforgiving period of time, with injuries a regularity.

Participation in the Premier League and Europe aren’t the only commitments that some managers have to deal with though, as Liverpool are still competing in the 2023/24 EFL Cup. It could prove to be another distraction ahead of their league campaign, which holds more importance to both supporters and Klopp.

The Reds won the 2021/22 EFL Cup with a dramatic triumph on penalties against Chelsea at Wembley, but were knocked out of the competition by Manchester City last term after a narrow 3-2 defeat against Guardiola’s side. With a Champions League campaign to prioritise in that season, though, Liverpool supporters won’t have been too disheartened to have exited the competition at the fourth round stage.

With Liverpool’s focus being set on finishing in the top four this term to reclaim their place back in the Champions League, it wouldn’t come as too much of a surprise to see Klopp resting some key players in their EFL Cup campaign.

With the sometimes season-defining festive period gradually edging closer, you have to question whether it’s worth the manager naming a squad which features the likes of Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk, key players without whom Liverpool would likely struggle for a significant period of time.

Of course, if the Reds were to reach the latter stages of, or even win, the EFL Cup, that would be a real fillip for the club’s supporters and the players who feature during the campaign in terms of boosting morale for all involved.

Liverpool have some promising youngsters coming through their academy, and the tournament presents the ideal opportunity for them to be involved in the first-team squad and gain valuable experience in senior football. The likes of Ben Doak and Jarell Quansah are just some of the younger players who have already been involved in the senior setup this season.

If you’re a betting person, then you’ll get odds of 3/1 on Sky Bet for Liverpool to win the 2023/24 EFL Cup. Below, it’s been revealed by bonuscodebets.co.uk the odds on Sky Bet for the rest of the expected contenders for this year’s EFL Cup.

  • Arsenal @ 7/2
  • Manchester United @ 4/1
  • Chelsea @ 5/1
  • Newcastle United @ 5/1
  • West Ham United @ 14/1

Odds displayed are correct as of 4:30 pm, Thursday 28th September 2023. Odds are subject to change.

Most bookies, fans and pundits have Manchester City down as Premier League favourites this season. Fans of Liverpool will no doubt be hoping for at least a top-four finish, but perhaps Kopites should be looking for their team to have a tilt at the title.

Man City facing injury pile-up

It’s early in the season and City already have a few players sidelined through injury. The club’s talisman over recent years, Kevin De Bruyne, seems to be off the field more than he’s on it these days. Other key figures such as John Stones, Jack Grealish and new signing Mateo Kovacic have already picked up injuries which have seen them miss games.

With injuries already piling up and without the same strength in depth they once enjoyed following some high-profile departures, City may find fate and the betting odds turn against them as the season goes on.

No obvious challenger

If City struggle to maintain their impressive form from the end of last season, which teams are waiting in the wings to swoop in and take advantage?

Arsenal were a surprise challenger last year but fell short as much due to temperament as ability. They’ve strengthened over the summer, but whether they’ve yet shown enough to suggest they could be genuine title challengers this year is debatable.

They arguably benefitted from the inconsistency of teams around them last season, and we won’t know whether they’re more mentally prepared to mount a challenge until later in the campaign.

VOTE for Empire of the Kop as Best Club Content Creator (Premier League) here: Football Content Awards OR on X with Empire’s one-click X link with: I am voting in @The_FCAs for @empireofthekop in Best Club Content Creator (Premier League)

Manchester United have had a poor start to the season and have too many problems to solve before they can be considered challengers. Defensive problems and a lack of creativity – particularly from wide areas – will be their undoing, even if they do put a run of wins together.

Expectation is at an all-time high at Newcastle following Saudi investment. While the club has made significant progress under Eddie Howe, it looks like a project which won’t see a real title challenge until next term at the earliest. Sustaining challenges in the Premier League and Champions League simultaneously is a tall order – just look at how long it took City to get it right.

With Chelsea still struggling to get things together, the only other club who might be considered as potential challengers are Spurs. Fans at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium are loving Ange-ball, but it’s a completely new approach for the club after recent seasons, and even in their best Premier League years, they’ve come up short.

Long live the King!

While Liverpool have brought in some new faces this season, the biggest success story from their transfer window may prove to be keeping hold of Mo Salah. One of the most influential players in recent seasons, his ability and experience could be the driving force behind an assault on the title by the Reds.

He and his teammates will need to be lucky with injuries. After all, Liverpool are another club arguably lacking in terms of squad depth, but a talisman who is on the pitch, playing well and scoring goals can often be the difference in those big moments which separate success and failure. Salah’s decision to stay at Liverpool gives the club an edge that none of their rivals have.

Liverpool get their Women’s Super League season underway next Sunday with a trip to London to face Arsenal, with the Reds having welcomed back several players who were involved at the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand during the summer.

As shown in ExpressVPN’s blog post, worldwide interest in women’s football is ever-growing, with a record number of countries participating at the 2023 finals, which drew unprecedented figures for attendances and TV audiences.

A few members of Matt Beard’s squad were at the tournament Down Under, and ahead of the WSL campaign kicking off, we take a look back at the LFC players who represented their nations on the global stage over the past couple of months.

Fuka Nagano

The 24-year-old played in all five of Japan’s matches at the 2023 Women’s World Cup, starting four times as her country reached the quarter-finals.

She helped her side to a 100% record in the group stage, playing the full 90 minutes in their 5-0 win over Zambia and coming on as a substitute in the 2-0 defeat of Costa Rica.

Her team’s highlight of the finals came at the end of the group as they thrashed eventual champions Spain 4-0, with Nagano restored to the starting line-up.

The Liverpool midfielder then got one over on a future teammate (more of which later) as Norway were seen off in the round of 16, but her tournament came to an end in the last eight as Japan lost out 2-1 to Sweden, who ultimately finished third.

Niamh Fahey

The Liverpool captain had the honour of playing in Republic of Ireland’s first appearance at the Women’s World Cup finals, and despite Vera Pauw’s team exiting at the group stage, they acquitted themselves commendably on their tournament debut.

Th 35-year-old was ever-present for her country, who began with a narrow 1-0 loss to co-hosts Australia. The Girls in Green took a surprise lead against Canada in their next game, but fortune deserted them yet again as their opponents came from behind to triumph 2-1.

Fahey and Ireland at least returned home with a point on the board as they held Nigeria to a goalless draw in their final group match. The African side repeated that scoreline against eventual runners-up England, who needed a penalty shootout to progress in the round of 16.

Sophie Roman Haug

The recent signing from Roma has already exhibited her deft finishing skills in Liverpool training, and prior to the transfer she made her mark at the Women’s World Cup for Norway.

She wasn’t called upon when they suffered a shock opening night defeat to co-hosts New Zealand but was then brought into the team for the goalless draw against Switzerland.

Haug’s team then needed to beat Philippines to keep their tournament hopes alive, and she helped them to do so in style, netting a hat-trick in a 6-0 win.

That took them through to face Nagano’s Japan in the round of 16, where the 24-year-old forward’s involvement ended as her side were beaten 3-1.

Teagan Micah

The goalkeeper was a member of the Australia squad which reached the semi-finals but unfortunately didn’t get any game-time at the finals, having been unable to displace Mackenzie Arnold.

Not even the Matildas’ participation in the third place play-off, usually a fixture in which lesser-seen squad members get a runout, could open the door for the Liverpool stopper to play in a World Cup co-hosted by her country.

It was a shame that Micah didn’t get to feature even once at the finals, but she can be forever proud to have been part of a group of players who captured the hearts of an entire nation for an unforgettable month.

Shanice van de Sanden

The Netherlands forward came on as a substitute in the 2019 World Cup final but could only make her country’s provisional squad for this year’s edition.

She travelled to the tournament as a reserve, with FIFA rules allowing teams to replace players for medical reasons up to 24 hours before their first match at the finals if required.

However, Van de Sanden wasn’t called upon at the 2023 finals, with her country defeated by eventual champions Spain in the last eight.

Following their failure to qualify for the Champions League in the 2022/23 season, significant changes are crucial for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool squad to rectify their performance in 2023/24.

The Reds experienced a turbulent season last time around, dropping points on multiple occasions. Despite their improved form in the spring months, they couldn’t secure a Champions League spot, earning Europa League qualification instead.

However, Liverpool have taken proactive steps during the summer transfer window. Klopp has completely overhauled the midfield, parting ways with James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita as their contracts expired.

Additionally, there have been unexpected departures, with key players Fabinho and Jordan Henderson opting for lucrative moves to Saudi Arabia. On the other hand, Liverpool have made notable additions to strengthen the midfield, including Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Ryan Gravenberch.

With the summer transfer window closed and the new Premier League season underway, we’ve covered you with all of Liverpool’s new arrivals and how some of them have performed thus far, below.

Liverpool 2023/24: Summer Arrivals

Player Nationality Arrived From Price
Dominik Szoboszlai Hungary RB Leipzig £60 million
Alexis Mac Allister Argentina Brighton £35 million
Ryan Gravenberch Netherlands Bayern Munich £34 million
Wataru Endo Japan Stuttgart £17 million
Sepp van den Berg Netherlands Schalke End of loan
Calvin Ramsey Scotland Preston End of loan
Rhys Williams England Aberdeen End of loan

Dominik Szoboszlai has participated in the entirety of all five games thus far, managing to score once. From these fixtures, Liverpool remain undefeated in the early stages of the Premier League season (4 wins, 1 draw) and are comfortable in third position.

He has seamlessly transitioned into his right-sided midfield role, leading many to believe that he is an improvement over Henderson. Since the former Reds captain is now playing in the Saudi Pro League, where a recent video of Fabinho being nutmegged at a leisurely pace went viral, Szoboszlai has easily taken on the responsibility.

It should be noted that Szoboszlai is 11 years younger than Henderson, but one statistic perfectly demonstrates the significant impact he has had on the game.

In his first five starts, Szoboszlai has collected 50 duels – 30 more than Henderson achieved in his first five league starts last term. More impressively, he’s won 48% of those duels, which can include tackles, dribbles, and aerial challenges.

Intensity was a crucial attribute the Reds missed last season, and Szoboszlai has undoubtedly filled this void. In the 2-1 win at Newcastle, he was involved in 20 duels alone! This is more than Henderson’s duels from meetings with Fulham, Manchester United, Newcastle, Bournemouth, and Brighton last season combined – making the newcomer a sure bet for those backing Liverpool at the sportsbooks.

The youngster now representing the number 8 shirt at Anfield has made a huge impact thus far and is unquestionably living up to the hype. With the top-rated bookmakers for the UK often taking a strong stance on Liverpool in the odds, Szoboszlai will surely assist in swaying those lines to favour the Reds.

Alexis Mac Allister: Room for improvement

Following a recent 1-0 deficit at half-time against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Argentina midfielder Alexis Mac Allister was removed from the action at the break. Liverpool went on to win the game (3-1) without the 24-year-old, as Colombian winger Luis Diaz replaced him.

Mac Allister made a £35m move to Liverpool during the summer transfer window. However, he is still adjusting to his new environment. He also represented his country during the recent break from domestic matches. Prior to a World Cup qualifier against Bolivia, which took place at a significantly high altitude, he needed to use oxygen tubes.

When coining the term ‘room for improvement’, we’re being generous with our words. Simply put, a downtrend in performance can perhaps be excused for Mac Allister returning from the international break. Still, we’re barely into the season, and the schedule isn’t going to get easier.

After the Wolves performance, Arsenal legend Martin Keown said it best: “Another mistake from Mac Allister, you didn’t see him do this is a Brighton jersey.

With that said, it’s too early to judge. The World Cup winner has yet to find his first goal or assist as a Liverpool representative, and he sadly delivered an ugly performance against Wolves. However, whether or not he can provide the positive statistics he did at Brighton is yet to be seen, and we’ll need a much larger sample size of 90-minute starts to give a more accurate evaluation.

Any plans for Ryan Gravenberch?

The Reds officially announced the acquisition of the Dutch national player, ending months of rumours. The signing occurred just hours before the summer transfer window deadline earlier this month. The 21-year-old has agreed to a five-year contract, with an initial transfer fee of £34.2m from Bayern Munich.

Klopp has recently shared his thoughts on Gravenberch’s potential impact on the team, marking his first public statement since the player’s arrival from Bayern. The former Ajax midfielder also debuted in the English Premier League last weekend, although it was a brief appearance off the bench against Wolves.

Klopp said: “I think definitely in the future he has the potential to play as a No.6. The only thing about Alexis Mac Allister – he can play the position – is, Is he a classical six how you would draw it? Probably not. But the position in football has changed over the years.

He’s so skilled, I don’t like to talk about the things he is not good at yet. They all have skills, and yes, they have to improve, and he knows that, and he tries, but the natural stuff is there, and all the other stuff takes time, which is how it is. He is an 8, he can play as a 10, definitely and yes, in time, he can play as a 6. Like Curtis [Jones] could play as a 6, they just have to get used to the different spaces and responsibilities.”

Wataru Endo: Patiently waiting?

Of Liverpool’s four major signings in the summer, Waturu Endo is arguably the one who’s least likely to start regularly. However, with the captain of Japan’s national squad already making three Premier League appearances (starting once), we shouldn’t neglect what caught Klopp’s attention in the first place and how he boasts the potential to become a star in England.

The defensive midfielder is an exceptional player who showcased his skills in the Bundesliga with Stuttgart. Over the past two seasons in Germany, he has consistently outperformed others. He excels in aerial duels, leading the league in this category. Additionally, he has the most clearances and head clearances, displaying his defensive prowess. His ability to win possession is also unmatched.

Furthermore, he ranked second in touches, tackles, and passes, highlighting his all-around contribution to the team. Notably, he held the captaincy of a club in one of the most prominent European leagues.

That accomplishment demonstrates his professionalism, leadership and determination, especially considering the significant cultural differences he faces on and off the field.

Liverpool are many people’s favourites to go on and win the Europa League in 2023/24, with their dazzling array of forwards set to be among the main contenders to end the competition as its top scorer.

Even if the likes of Mo Salah and Luis Diaz don’t start regularly in the group stage, they could feature more heavily if the Reds go deep into the tournament. Their teammates Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota and Cody Gakpo could also be decent shouts for the top scorer prize.

However, beyond Jurgen Klopp’s squad, a few other forwards might well fancy their chances of outscoring everyone else in the competition, depending on how far their teams can progress on the road towards the final in Dublin next May. So who could be the main challengers to the Anfield attacking arsenal in that regard?

If for nothing else it’d be worth your while going through this list particularly if you’re a regular punter. If the past has taught us anything it’s to be mindful when placing wagers on teams and their players. True, you can choose a great UK casino with 25 free spins on registration no deposit that also offers a sportsbook service with free bets, but choosing who to bet on is all on you.

Evan Ferguson

The Irish attacker has been a revelation at Brighton, scoring 14 goals in his first 34 games for the club, including a sensational hat-trick against Newcastle just before the international break.

The 18-year-old has been backed by some football scouts to go on and become a £100m player in the future, and the Europa League could be the platform which truly catapults him into the wider consciousness outside of the UK and Ireland.

Victor Boniface

The Nigerian was the joint-top scorer in last season’s Europa League with six goals for Union Saint-Gilloise. Liverpool won’t face him in the group stage, though, as he’s since moved to Bayer Leverkusen, where he’s made a flying start.

He’s netted five goals in as many matches for Xabi Alonso’s team, also chipping in with two assists. If the Bundesliga side can better their semi-final placing from last term, the 22-year-old will surely be in the frame to claim the top scorer prize outright this time.

Paulo Dybala

The Argentine is no stranger to the European stage from his many years at Juventus, while he netted five times in Roma’s run to the final of this tournament last season.

Jose Mourinho’s men are among the favourites to get that far again this time around, and the 29-year-old attacker may be clicking into gear at the right time, scoring twice in the Giallorossi’s 7-0 thumping of Empoli in Serie A at the weekend.

Jarrod Bowen

Last season’s Europa Conference League final hero for West Ham will be aiming to replicate such feats in the tournament’s secondary competition this term, and his early season form suggests he might be in with a shout as top scorer.

The 26-year-old has scored three goals in his first five matches of the Premier League campaign, while his European record for the Irons is nine goals in 21 appearances. Bowen is very much a man for the big stage.

Willian Jose

Yes, that is the same Willian Jose who endured a difficult loan spell at Wolves in 2020/21, scoring just once in 18 appearances at Molineux. His fortunes have rather changed for the better since then.

The 31-year-old has roared out of the blocks for Real Betis this season, netting three times in their opening five LaLiga games, while he was prolific on the European stage during his time at Real Sociedad previously.

He could be a good outside tip to usurp some bigger names in the race to finish as top scorer in the 2023/24 Europa League.
