Harvey Elliott shared an insight into the elite mentality of Mo Salah with a comment he made following Liverpool’s 4-3 win over Fulham on Sunday.

Despite the Reds beating Bernd Leno four times, their top scorer this season wasn’t among the scorers, with Marco Silva’s team just the second opponents in 2023/24 to prevent him from netting at Anfield.

The Egyptian’s younger teammate was subsequently speaking on the Kelly and Wrighty Show, and he shed a light on the mindset of the 31-year-old.

Elliott revealed: “You know Mo always wants to score but he got an assist, and even in games where he doesn’t score he’s popping up with an assist or something.

“He wasn’t the happiest, but as I said before, it can’t just be the forwards who score. We all need to chip in. It may not have been Mo’s day, but the other boys delivered.”

Salah would’ve been well aware that a goal against Fulham at the weekend would’ve taken him to 200 for Liverpool and 150 in the Premier League (Transfermarkt), so he’d have been yearning to hit both of those milestones last Sunday.

He’s become so accustomed to scoring, especially at Anfield, that he’ll probably think he fell short of his own enormously high standards and was frustrated as a result; but like Elliott said, the 31-year-old still made a hugely valuable contribution with the assist for Wataru Endo’s late equaliser.

The England under-21 midfielder was also correct to stress the importance of the Japan captain, along with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Alexis Mac Allister, stepping up to ensure that the Reds still prevailed even with their most lethal player held scoreless.

Liverpool will soon need to manage without Salah for a few games when he goes to the Africa Cup of Nations, so that’s when Jurgen Klopp will be especially looking towards the rest of the squad to take on the goalscoring responsibilities in the Egyptian’s absence.

In the meantime, our upcoming opponents beware…our number 11 will be gunning for that 200th LFC goal, especially now that he’s been made to wait for it!

Ian Wright has said that Liverpool ‘have a proper player on their hands’ in one youngster among Jurgen Klopp’s senior squad at Anfield.

The former Arsenal striker told Premier League Productions (4 December, 2:40 pm) that he’s ‘really excited’ by the enormous ‘potential’ of Harvey Elliott, who’s bounced back from dislocating his ankle two years ago to become a fixture within the first-team setup on Merseyside.

The attacking midfielder didn’t feature against his former club Fulham on Sunday but has already made 18 appearances this season, starting every Europa League game so far (Transfermarkt).

Wright said of the 20-year-old: “I like him. He is somebody that the potential he has. He obviously had that injury, but as a player, the way he sees the game, his passing, his mobility, the capability and, like he said, he has to score more goals.

“He again is somebody that, if he can get anywhere near his potential, then Liverpool have a proper player on their hands. I am really excited for him.”

It’s easy to forget how young Elliott still is, having already accrued 84 senior outings for the Reds (Transfermarkt). Indeed, had he not missed five months with that aforementioned ankle injury, he’d surely be a Liverpool centurion by now.

The heightened competition for midfield places has restricted the 20-year-old to just one Premier League start so far this term, but with two fixtures less than 72 hours apart later this week, the youngster could well be given the nod by Klopp in at least one of those.

His star quality was on show during England’s triumph at the European Under-21 Championship in the summer, while his last four caps at that level have seen him plunder five goals and seven assists (Transfermarkt).

Elliott is in the wonderfully rarefied position of already boasting plenty of senior experience while still having the bulk of his career ahead of him.

Even if he’s had to be content with minutes off the bench for most of this season so far, his time to establish himself as a regular in Klopp’s preferred XI should come.

Liverpool were by far and out the superior side to visitors LASK, and that was due in no small part to the efforts of Harvey Elliott.

The 20-year-old was a highly effective creative force for the hosts, registering three key passes and one big chance, according to stats collected by Sofascore.

The Merseysiders find themselves three goals to the good at Anfield, securing a comfortable lead courtesy of Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo and Mo Salah.

Liverpool’s fringe players continue to delight

What a season Harvey Elliott is having. The England youth international has not been a guaranteed starter for Jurgen Klopp when it has come to the English top-flight, but boy has he delivered when called upon.

He may not be on the scoresheet thus far, but don’t doubt that the attacking midfielder’s fingerprints have been all over our dominant showing against the Austrian outfit.

It’s yet further proof of just how pivotal our fringe players have been in 2023/24 as we look to compete on all fronts.

Neil Jones has hailed the ‘excellent form’ of Harvey Elliott this season in a much-changed Liverpool midfield.

The journalist had been discussing the battle between Curtis Jones and Ryan Gravenberch for minutes on the left of the midfield.

“It’s another one where you’re thinking of horses for courses and asking yourself questions like, how much space are they going to have, what’s their fitness like, how are they training, what’s their mood and so on and so forth,” the Covering Liverpool reporter wrote in his exclusive Substack column with Empire of the Kop.

“You’ve got so many decent options there and that’s without mentioning the likes of Harvey Elliott who has been in excellent form for Liverpool and England U21s this term.

“At least they’ve got different options who bring different things to the pitch each time they play.”

The Academy graduate has been limited to a few appearances here and there, playing 768 minutes worth of football (258 Premier League minutes) in 17 games (across all competitions).

Plenty more to come from Elliott

Don’t let the one assist and six starts in cup competitions fool you – Harvey Elliott is very much a player on the rise.

With the Merseysiders having secured as many as four new signings in the middle of the park, minutes were always going to be hard to come by for our fringe stars.

That said, the 20-year-old’s performances off the bench and in the cups have been nothing short of exemplary.

With the games coming thick and fast in this festive period – expect plenty of opportunity for the ex-Fulham man to showcase his talents.

Harvey Elliott played a crucial part in England U21s latest victory, scoring twice in a 3-0 win over their Northern Ireland counterparts.

The former Fulham academy graduate felt inclined to heap the praise on his fellow goalscorer and Liverpool teammate, Tyler Morton, after the full-time whistle.

“Oh he’s amazing! I love Ty!” the youngster spoke of his teammate, as was relayed by the Echo.

“We’ve come through the Academy together. He’s one of my best mates.

“To be sharing a pitch with him, it’s unbelievable for him and for myself as well. When his goal struck the net, I was the happiest kid in the world. I’m so thrilled for him, I’m over the moon.

“He was unbelievable today and, for me, the best player on the pitch. He fully deserved that goal.

“It (a loan move to the Championship) is a pathway. You can go out and get these experiences in the Championship, like I did as well. It’s a great league, full of great teams. The experiences you get there are like no other and it’s a great way to learn.

“I’m just happy that he’s doing his thing on loan and expressing himself the way I know he can. Hopefully we can share the pitch more often.”

The 21-year-old currently finds himself on loan at Hull City and gaining a great deal from his Championship experience with eight starts made in 10 league games.

What’s next for Tyler Morton?

At 21 years of age it would be unfair to suggest that our loan star has no future at Anfield, even should we recruit a new No.6 in January.

Our next pre-season, however, could be absolutely pivotal for determining whether he’s a player of value to the squad or in dire need of more experience.

It seems a little mad to say that about a footballer who’s already played at the San Siro for Jurgen Klopp’s men but that is the reality in a world-class midfield.

Harvey Elliott’s response to being booed by sections of the Goodison Park crowd during England under-21s’ 3-0 win over Northern Ireland on Tuesday night was to score twice.

The Liverpool maestro made light of the childish reception he received from some spectators in attendance at Everton’s stadium to maintain his hot streak in his country’s qualification campaign for the 2025 Euros, with his tally now standing at five goals in as many games (Transfermarkt).

As noted by The Mirror, the 20-year-old was jeered when his name was read aloud on the public address system following the first part of his brace last night.

England were already a goal to the good when, seven minutes after half-time, Elliott curled a delightful free kick into the Northern Ireland net to double his nation’s lead.

With 10 minutes remaining, the Liverpool ace got on the end of an exquisite through ball from Tyler Morton – who’s on loan at Hull from Anfield – and chipped it nonchalantly over Joshua Clarke to round off the scoring.

It was a night when a couple of the Reds made Goodison Park their own personal playground, even if some of the home faithful didn’t appreciate it despite the goals coming in an England shirt!

The Liverpool midfielder put the young Lions 3-0 up in the second-half with a special strike from outside the box.

A quick glance at the attack momentum shared between Liverpool and Toulouse clearly illustrates just how abject the former’s performance was.

At least one man can hold his head up high, however, amid a series of disappointing performances from his visiting teammates in France.

Harvey Elliott produced an encouraging display in the middle of the park, winning most of his ground duels – in stark comparison to his fellow midfielders (in stats compiled by Sofascore).

Stellar once again, Harvey

Harvey Elliott continues to impress despite having been largely limited to appearances from the bench this term.

There will be disappointment for both Wataru Endo and Alexis Mac Allister, the former of whom failed to showcase his credentials in Europe whilst the latter looked strangely subdued higher up the pitch.

At 20 years of age, however, our young English gem’s surprising maturity for his age continues to shine through.

Nice work, Harvey. At the very least, you’ve probably spared yourself from the manager’s wrath tomorrow morning!

Harvey Elliott has recalled a ‘touching moment’ in his Liverpool career which had his father in tears.

The 20-year-old was speaking to the Liverpool Echo, in association with boot suppliers New Balance, when he recounted the feeling of signing for the Reds in 2019 when he was still only 16.

The youngster said: “It didn’t really sink in until the first day I walked in for training and it was like: ‘right, I am actually here’. You know, seeing all the big players, putting on the kit, going out for training, the boss as well, it was a touching moment for me and my family, especially my dad as well, you know, being a Liverpool fan.

“For him, he was the happiest dad in the world. He was actually crying with what I would say was enjoyment as well when the contracts were signed and stuff.”

We can only imagine what it must’ve been like for Elliott and his family when he became a Liverpool player at 16, joining the club that he and his dad had supported for years at a time when they’d recently won the Champions League.

It had been less than three months since he made his Premier League debut for Fulham, and here he was going into a Reds squad which had just become champions of Europe and were about to embark on an unforgettable campaign in which they romped to the top-flight title.

The midfielder made eight appearances in total that season and has gone on to rack up 80 games and counting for LFC (Transfermarkt), which is no mean feat at a time when Jurgen Klopp has had one of the best squads ever seen at Anfield.

A haul of 32 Premier League outings last term is proof positive that Elliott is no longer the starry-eyed boy coming to terms with signing for the club of his dreams, but now an established first-team presence who continues to make his family proud with the quality of performance he so often brings to the famous red shirt.

Harvey Elliott has praised the impact that Liverpool’s four new signings have had since joining the club in the summer and has singled out one of his new teammates in particular for huge praise.

Jurgen Klopp was desperate to overhaul his midfield following our disappointing campaign last time out and the German tactician did exactly that with the signings of Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch.

All four players have already made their mark on their new side during the early stages of the season but it’s Szoboszlai who has impressed our No. 19 the most so far.

“He’s obviously world class and still so young as well,” Elliott told 90min. “Hopefully he’s going to be here for many, many seasons, as well as the other signings as well. Obviously he’s probably getting all the headlines but everyone’s come in, fitted into the team very well and showcased their talent.

“To have these players coming in, it’s always a positive boost for us. It keeps relationships healthy, getting into positions.”

Szoboszlai really has hit the ground running following his £60m move from RB Leipzig. The Hungary international brings so much quality to our engine room but is also a player that works his socks off whenever he’s on the pitch.

He can score and create goals – something we’ve seen already this term, and he’ll be eager to pick up silverware during his debut campaign on Merseyside.

The 23-year-old still has plenty of room to improve which is extremely exciting when you consider he’s already an exceptional talent.

Elliott will only benefit from playing and training alongside a top midfielder in our new No. 8 and we look forward to seeing the pair continue to develop under the watchful eye of Klopp and Co.

Harvey Elliott made good use of one particular feature in the gym at Liverpool’s AXA Training Centre on Friday.

The club’s social media team posted a variety of clips from Kirkby on Friday for the latest Inside Training video on YouTube, with the 20-year-old featuring prominently.

The youngster was shown walking along a balance beam, mastering it with ease before lunging himself shoulder-first onto a canvas landing mat with an angled jump reminiscent of what you’d see in WWE.

Elliott then picked himself up and gave himself room to take a good run at the mat before diving onto it again, this time on his opposite side.

He certainly seemed to enjoy that particular feature, although some of his teammates and management may have been wincing a bit when seeing the force with which his shoulders hit the canvas!

Harvey Elliott was handed a spot in the starting XI for Liverpool’s clash with Bournemouth last night and the England U21 international threw in a superb performance.

The 20-year-old is yet to register a goal or an assist for the Reds this term but has looked extremely sharp when called upon by our German tactician.

The ex-Fulham man wears his heart on his sleeve and is a player that works his socks off when out on the pitch.

Despite the stormy conditions at the Vitality Stadium last night Elliott was neat and tidy when on the ball and helped Liverpool up the pitch combining well with the likes of Joe Gomez and Dominik Szoboszlai.

With Jurgen Klopp signing four new midfielders in the summer our No. 19 has a huge job on his hands to nail down a regular spot in the starting XI but if he can continue to impress like he did on the south coast last night he’ll certainly be in the former Borussia Dortmund boss’ plans.

There were plenty of positive performances from Jurgen Klopp’s players during last night’s 5-1 defeat of Toulouse at Anfield.

Wataru Endo netted his first goal in a red shirt, Ryan Gravenberch covered every blade of grass in what was a dominant performance and Darwin Nunez was his usual chaotic self at the top end of the pitch.

It was Harvey Elliott who was singled out for praise by Gary Gillespie after the game, however, with the 63-year-old claiming the England youth international ‘brings a little bit of a spark’ to Klopp’s side.

“I was very impressed with Harvey Elliott all night,” the ex-Red told LFCTV (via Rousing The Kop). “I thought he worked his socks off, showed some really nice touches as well. I think he brings a little bit of a spark, a little bit of an energy.”

The 20-year-old may not have registered a goal or an assist against the French outfit but he set the tone with his energy and pressing.

The ex-Fulham youngster is up against some world-class talents when trying to nail down a regular spot in Klopp’s starting XI but he did his chances no harm last night.

He was also brilliant at the weekend when he was introduced as a second half substitute against Everton.

At just 20 years of age our No. 19, who our German tactician has previously labelled as ‘fearless’ (via Football365), will be aware that patience is required but the future is certainly looking bright for the boyhood red.
